i like to post this for anyone who might not know: as often as your gums can handle it, you can just rinse with hydrogen peroxide (like mouthwash), which is the same active ingredient in most/all of these types of "whitening" products (including fancy toothpaste/mouthwash, crest whitestrips, etc., albeit at slightly different concentrations).

the main difference is hydrogen peroxide is just a dollar or so for a 16oz or 32oz a bottle, which lasts quite a long time, certainly longer than you'd want to do a daily rinse! try it out for yourself, worse that could happen is some gum/tooth sensitivity, which recovers same as any stannous fluoride toothpaste would. if that's not ideal, you can use a q-tip to "paint" it on your teeth, similar to how this product works.

oh also it doesn't taste great by itself (if you know that kind of funky taste from whitestrips), so you can mix it with regular mouthwash as well, and/or brush regularly afterwards to help with the taste.

I can assure you, no good dentist will tell you not to use H2O2 rinse. They will however warn you again quick whitening products, look at pubmed research if you're interested in further research.

It's not the don't use it, but that you shouldn't be doing it all the time or harm / inflame your gums. The blanket advice to just do this in place of whitening is bad. There is a difference between a rinse and a continuous whitening regimen. Never said these quick whitening products were good either. As always, I recommend you do your research before taking internet advice.

The argument is that the professionals don't recommend this but sure follow the advice of armchair experts and tiktok trends instead. I'm in now way saying that these quick whitening items are better, but doesn't mean the cheap option is good for you either. Will it whiten, yes.

I'm a dentist's wife. Hydrogen peroxide can whiten teeth, but swishing it around isn't doing to do anything. It needs to have sustained contact with the enamel to make a difference. You'd be better off making a paste out of peroxide and baking soda and using a qtip to apply it and let it sit. The professional whitening cartridges can be up to 40% peroxide, so keep that in mind also as OTC is usually 3%. So, not only will swishing not whiten, over time it can cause tissue necrosis so instead of the money for whitening trays (which keeps the peroxide on your teeth and off your gums) you need tissue grafting because your gums are falling apart. So I mean...I wouldn't, but you do you!
