I swear, when they come out with a newer version of this, no one will be able to get one for years.

Easiest the best streaming player in existence - and I've tried them all. Reliable, stable, consistent and still gets updates years later.

LOL, Onn. 4K Google TV does everything NVIDIA Shield pro can do, and it is much more flexible than NVIDIA Shield pro, can load Google TV android 13 and beyond
Price aside, Nvidia is way better . More audio codeca, more ram, more fluid, and best AI upscaling of any Android streaming stick

If you have the sound system for Dolby Atmos and TrueHD, this is the way.

Nothing else on the market supports em natively, including Apple TV 4K.

my comprasion for functionalitues, not concern about android tv 13 :-D
* shield can do passthrough , ONN is no bueno,
* sheild have AI upscalling, ONN is no bueno
*shield always having update from nvidia (5-6 times this year for fixes and security update). ONN is only 1-2 update this year.
* shield has DV supports and love it. ONN is no bueno
*

shield has features for home theater, ONN is for simplicity.

if you do not have home theater setting, big screen 4K (mid-top tier tv model), receiver, 7.2 speaker, and dedicated room for your pleasure, you are wasted $$$ buying shields.....

this is my comparison and fit my purporses

I have a "2017" Shield with the thin remote with only a few buttons on it. Assuming new remotes work with the "2017" Shield, does anyone know where I can buy a better Shield remote (like the one that comes with this unit) fairly cheap? if you have a link, that's even better. TIA.
There are a few on amazon. The 2019 one can be found for $29 on amazon and various other online retailers: https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-Mot...500&sr=8-3

Stable? laugh out loud Android TV is buggy as hell and ad ridden.

The only reason to buy one of these is if you need local/network playback. But if you're into that kind of thing, you already know that by now and probably own one already.

If you just want streaming, the Apple TV is by far the better device and costs a lot less.
Yes, stable. I prefer it over Apple TV and I'm an iOS guy. Night and day better with features. Also, there are ways to block ads if you research.

Nothing like paying 180 bucks to deal with ads on the home screen and on your remote 😐
First of all, the shield does not have ads on the remote. The original shield had no quick launch buttons at all, and the newer current model shield only has a Netflix quick launch button which I'm sure is welcome by most people and definitely not an "ad". The android home screen has some ads on it yes. But so does Roku's home screen and the fire stick home screen.

Buddy how do you think that Netflix button got there? Do you think Nvidia just decided to label it Netflix out of the goodness of their heart? No, Netflix paid Nvidia to put it there. That makes it an ad. If it wasn't an add then the button would simply be a generic button that you could assign the function to whatever you want.

I have a 2017 version that I bought because it didn't have ads. After a Google update the launcher now shows ads that are obtrusive on the home screen. I love the shield but when you are buying one of the most expensive streaming devices getting it ad free should be a given.

I would not say it's worth it they make Google Play store very very hard to install to make this thing worthwhile you left the side load and do all sorts of tricks and spend hours on YouTube to find up to date tutorial 50$ is more like it would look on YouTube how to install the Aurora Play store and then spoof into a new Android phone to download and play games

Does anyone know if the upscaling is good at fixing the banding problem with dark gradients of light in HD? It kills me

Implying I rip anything lel. I am a software engineer by trade, building and maintaining enterprise servers and network appliances is a hobby of mine. I have a home theater in my basement, full 7.2.4 atmos setup and an 83'' Sony A90j and a 120'' drop down screen when we have numerous people over. Quality is paramount because you can actually see artifacts on 1080p streaming content at this level. My entire setup is automated at this point, I don't lose any time sitting down and scrolling through thousands of my own titles on demand through a 10gb fiber network. If a drive fails, I just pop a new one in and it repopulates automatically because I have a fully automated triple failover scheme. My family and their friends very much enjoy a full theater experience without leaving the house and my extended family enjoys having access to my server in the comforts of their homes as well. Paying for streaming services is death by 1000 cuts.
I honestly don't know why you even bother replying to that nonsense spewed by that person. The comment itself is pure trash from someone who can't think beyond...well, whatever it is that is limiting that person.

You're paying for excellent upscaling. A lot of content is 1080p, most tvs are 4k. Does a pretty good job bridging that gap.
