Both are good options!
Costco one has:
- need Costco membership
- $20 more
- 8c / 16t processor (more powerful and efficient)
- touchscreen (glossy)
- 250 nits screen

Amazon one has:
- 4c / 8t processor (still powerful, but hotter)
- brighter screen (300 nits)
- matte screen (less reflective)
- Climate Pledge Friendly - Made with recycled plastics and have super cool reversed E and R key caps with yellow letters…)

I can't find anything comparing graphics performance, but from experience, Ryzen Vega has better driver support. They probably perform around the same, with Vega looking better (judging off videos of their older cpu versions)

For me since the Costco one is HP, I would pass. I have had nothing but bad experiences with HP laptops.

I've always had problems with HP laptops and desktops, until I did a clean install of Windows. All the HP nonsense bloat is a drag.

I bought the Costco deal recently

https://slickdeals.net/f/16157467-costco-members-only-acer-aspire-vero-14-2022-14-fhd-ips-i5-1235u-16gb-lpddr4x-512gb-gen4-ssd-thunderbolt-4-449-99

My Costco laptop: boots up pretty really fast. Can't really complain. Chrome, lots of tabs open. Fast. 16gb memory ram is good. Fan noise is annoying but I have headphones on. Built-in speakers is garbage. Playing games is awful. Tried playing overwatch. Not good even at the lowest settings. Decent webcam and mic. Used google voice a few times. Really can't complain too much.

How does this laptop compare to my Costco laptop? Is the CPU about the same? A lot slower or faster? I want this laptop because I really do want a laptop with Numpad because this is a work laptop and I use excel sometimes. Another thing. Because there's a numpad. Will the keyboard be a lot smaller?

According to https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php, Ryzen 7 5800u and Iris Xe have similar graphics performance. Not going to be good for anything but very light gaming. Both cpus will be fast for anything not requiring a heavy graphics load.

according to the specs on Amazon the 15" is 14.31" wide. The costco AV14-51-58XZ is 12.9" wide.

This has a better picture of the 15" keyboard
https://www.acer.com/us-en/laptop....AYCAA.006
when you zoom in there is less gap from keyboard to edge of laptop on the 15" so I think the keys themselves are the same size, and in addition to the numberpad there are additional top row keys and they are bigger and the power key is not next to the delete key which is a plus on the 15"

I lucked out with my costco because I have no fan issues, it's silent at rest and barely hear it under load.

edit: other differences (according to the Acer links above), no bluetooth or thunderbolt on the 15" but does have ethernet port

I would be very careful with recycled plastic. Who knows what concoction they used. It affects everything. These clamshells have to be durable. In 3 years, if this becomes brittle or tacky, only an extended warranty will help.

Any experience with HP's hinges? Or any of the hardware?
I have had three HP laptops over the last several years. Minor software problems but every single one of them had hinge failures. The last one cracked the touchscreen when it failed just after a year. Never buying an HP again.

I bought an HP envy in 2015 still running like the first day no issue. Bought another one in 2019 and it's been great. No issue whatsoever.

This 11th gen i7 is slower than your Costco i5-1235u. Your laptop has a Thunderbolt port which is rare at the price range. The Acer has only 5Gbps USB. Nowadays most portable SSDs support at least 10Gbps. Even worse, you can't connect external monitors to the USB-C port which is important to work laptops. With a single USB-C DP Alt mode or Thunderbolt port, you can connect up to 3 or 4 external monitors, plug and play.
If you also play games on it, you may spend $100 more and get this instead. It has Thunderbolt 4 too.

It was an FP and marked expired but it's still available as of now. Adding more RAM to it is necessary. By the way, the 6 cores Intel Core i5-11400H in it is again faster than this i7-1195G7. Though battery life is poor as it's a gaming laptop.

At this price point, if you do NOT need a 15.6 screen... Prior posting was for an Acer Refurb with 2yr warranty... Acer Swift 3 - 14" Laptop Intel Core i5-1240P 1.70GHz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD W11H - on eBay (no link just search it) its at 449 now - Had mine for two weeks - no issues, no complaints - and the screen is decent. As to HPs- would NOT buy one if my life depended on it. On my THIRD battery on a high end X - will last about 60 cycles then expand and push the screen out... This last time went with NON OEM battery (which HP support threw a fit) - and it seems to be working better. Take my words with a grain of salt - I'm a MAC guy forced to use PCs (archaic 32 bit crap that won't run on silicone / parallels). For a budget PC - I'm tickled pink so far (really wanted the Asus keypad thing - but price to spec - the acer worked well). Paid 400 when it was on here - would pay the 450 if I had to do it again.

I had 2 HP laptops (<$500) before. Both of them had same problem. Hinge broke within 2 years. Never buying HP again. I have had Acer since 3 years and no problem at all. I have 2017 MAC book pro as a work laptop since 5 years and it's still like new.
