For anyone wondering why the performance of the 256GB is worse on the M2 MacBook Air as compared to the M1 256GB and the 512GB on both the M1 & M2, it's because Apple used a pair of "drive" chips that the MacBook Air would write parts of the data to both at the same time making the bandwidth (data pipe) twice as big. On the new M2 256GB they are only using one "drive" chip and thus, the speed to access the drive is cut in half slowing it down and making the difference between the M1 and M2 MacBook Air the opposite of what you would expect with the M2 being slower than the M1. Crazy but true.

Looks like a good deal for an M2. Hopefully this is the new price! I get that the M1 is faster but I like the look of this MacBook.

Which ones exactly??? Can you post a link to a similar deal here on SD? Are you sure you are not confusing with deals on M1? I searched SD before posting, the only thing remotely close is 16GB/256GB for $20 more (https://slickdeals.net/f/16276165-apple-macbook-air-mid-2022-13-6-apple-m2-8-core-cpu-16gb-unified-memory-256gb-ssd-1269) and nothing below $1k on M2.

I think for most people the 256GB will be fine. The only thing that brought this to light is the benchmarking crowd who test the entirety of the machine's performance metrics. The real issue is the fact that they reduced performance from the M1 Air. I think that did more damage to the M2 Model than the actual speed difference.

Yeah I grabbed the $1599 M1 Pro at Best Buy a while back. The M2 Air would be a contender if this deal had the 512GB for $1299. But that's just crazy thinkin'. Stick Out Tongue
