For anyone wondering why the performance of the 256GB is worse on the M2 MacBook Air as compared to the M1 256GB and the 512GB on both the M1 & M2, it's because Apple used a pair of "drive" chips that the MacBook Air would write parts of the data to both at the same time making the bandwidth (data pipe) twice as big. On the new M2 256GB they are only using one "drive" chip and thus, the speed to access the drive is cut in half slowing it down and making the difference between the M1 and M2 MacBook Air the opposite of what you would expect with the M2 being slower than the M1. Crazy but true.

Yeah supposedly for the m2 256 is slower than 512gb . Wtf isn't 16/512gb an option in this deal.smh

Depends on your use case. If you're trying to squeeze $2000 Mac performance out of this laptop, it matters. If not, it doesn't. External storage and cloud storage is cheap.

FWIW, 16G/512GB is also discounted at $1499 in Space Gray, Starlight or Midnight colors, but I guess it could barely count as a "deal"
