It's sad that Chase just copies the categories from Discover. I think that's the reason Discover stopped disclosing the categories for the entire year in advance.
I have both the cards and I hate to see overlapping categories. With overlapping categories, I always choose paying with Discover, because there is always a bonus when redeeming points for gift cards.
This is only for the freedom and freedom flex cards. Please update the description OP
Doesn't work for freedom unlimited. Only the Freedom Flex and Freedom get these offers

Grocery Stores but no Walmart, can someone list a list of accepted Grocery Stores?
Target: why, everyone is already have Redcard
Fitness Clubs and Gyms 5% Back: really?

Not useless for me... I buy a reasonable amount of groceries at Kroger. Plus if you buy gift cards there you also get 5% back (from what I've read).
Kroger has some good/great deals when they have sales, but you have to be careful because most of their stuff is overpriced.

So buying GCs at grocery store will always count toward that 5% for both Freedom and Discover?

I've never had an issue with either Chase or Amex at Kroger stores.

Anyone tried buying Amazon GCs at Kroger
I've never had an issue with buying any gift card in a physical store. I have bought countless gift cards at gas stations to get 5% for "gas" on anything from ebay to Home Depot. The only time I've seen gift cards coded differently is when you buy them online.

Super garbage quarter
Other than the overlap with Discover, I don't understand this sentiment. You guys don't eat anything at home? Or you buy everything at wholesale stores and Walmart? Never mind the gift card option, this is one of the best quarters. Of course, the fitness addon is garbage. Just buy what you need to work out at home.

why does chase ask to activate it ? why not just give cashback if purchase is eligible? who would not want the cashback?
This user convenience would not help their profits. I can't imagine any other reason.
Does buying physical Disney GCs at a local Target store trigger the Freedom Flex 5% category for up to $1500 starting tomorrow?
How about buying Disney GCs at non-Walmart grocery stores?
Yes for both, in my experience.
It's even better to buy Disney gift cards from BJs (because BJs gives a ~4% discount on such cards) when "wholesale clubs" are one of the Flex categories, but they haven't had that category for a couple years now, maybe.
Buying from BJs with PayPal when PayPal is one of the categories is also good.
