Be aware, once you activate HP+ to get the 12 months instant ink, you can never use third party ink with that printer. You will be limited to using genuine HP cartridges for the life of the printer.

The printer is connected to the internet and it monitors the ink levels. They do it that way specifically so you cant order a bunch of extra ink.

The ink cartridges are also coded for the program, once the 12 months run out or you stop paying the monthly fee they effectively brick the printer and any remaining ink cartridges you have. The printer only starts working again when you either extend your subscription or you purchase a new genuine regular retail HP ink cartridge.

If you haven't- please consider stepping up to a laser printer. I firmly believe that pound for pound laser printers are the better deal. Toner is more expensive, and maybe also the printer itself. But toner never dries out. So especially if you don't print often, you don't have to deal with ink going bad.

I have a (B&W) Brother laser printer and it will sit for months unused. But when I go to print something, it just fires right up, rumbles it's little rumble, spits out a print, and goes back to sleep. I'm strongly thinking of stepping up to a color.

I think it's the best way to go. Inkjet is a scam.

Got one thanks! I haven't had a printer in years because of outrageous ink costs (plus I break printers) and the 2 year extended warranty (for my printer-breaking tendencies) + the 12 months of ink pushed this into the slickdeal lane for me.

I wonder, since it's a smart printer that automatically orders your replacement ink for you, if you don't print much......do you lose out on a lot of ink savings? I'd rather order the ink myself every month and save it up. Either way it's a great deal, thanks OP.

Was wondering the same thing. How does it know to send you more ink?

Worth it for the 12 months of instant ink alone. Printer isn't great but it's ok.

Yes but one year of free ink gives me time at least to figure out my next ink move. I'm coming for you HP.

Great deal! HP has different plans depending on how many pages you estimate to print per month after the 12 month insta ink ends. I think it starts at 10 pages per month for $1.99 and it goes up from there. Insta Ink knows when to send you new ink because the printer stays online. I've had the $1.99 per month plan for years, because it's the right amount of pages for me to print per month, and when the ink level goals down, like magic new ink arrives in the mail plenty of time before I actually run out.

For that price it is worth it. I have to print up real estate flyers and info packets for sellers. After a year if ink is too much there will be another deal.

Just print everything you ever need in the first 2 months then cancel. If u need to print anything afterwards… don't.

The Ink game is real out in these streets. I'd honestly rather pay more for the printer and less for the ink. Laser is the way to go if you can accept black and white. I just wanted a supplemental color for a few sheets a month. The who subscription stuff seems like too much of a headache.
