Semi pro tip... a crescent wrench adjusted to just barely over the outside diameter of the pipe will disengage the sharkbite lock without needing to buy a special tool.

If you're removing a bunch, spend the few bucks too make it easier but if it's just one or two.... Grab a crescent wrench instead.

Or just properly install your sharkbite fittings and you wont have any issues.

Doesn't mean he did it right, and I wouldn't ever pay a plumber for a sharkbite. That's. Just. Wow

My hot water heater's hot water tube is leaking for the second time. The landlord just installed a new hot water heater and tubing a few months ago. The previous owner of the house moved the hot water heater to the screened porch on the back and ran the tubing through the back of the house into the kitchen cabinets to the kitchen sink pipes because it was in the attic and it burst one time and he didn't want to have to replace the ceiling again. It's a small 35 gallon. I can hear it spraying water out the tube and it's puddling on the back screen porch. I looked at it and there's ants all on the tubing. They've made a nest near the water source. We have those crazy ants out here that are everywhere. They don't make ant beds, they live everywhere.. in the wood, trees, potted plant soil. There's trails of them everywhere. I think they're carpenter ants and I think their biting the water heater tubing to get to the water. Any advice?

You can have the tubing changed to copper piping. No ants can bite through that.

It depends on where it's leaking from. When you say "tube" I assume you're talking about the open pipe that connects to the pressure relief valve. In that case it may need a new pressure relief valve because it's not holding like it should, or they need to install a thermal expansion tank because there is too much pressure built up and the pressure relief valve is doing what it is supposed to do and let water out to relieve the pressure.

No self-respecting plumber would be caught dead using sharkbites except temporarily, in an emergency. Certainly not in plumbing that will be closed up behind a wall. That's actually against code in many locales.
That said, sharkbites are fantastic to use in the right situation.

don't use sharkbites unless you want a leak down the road. do it right or do it twice. water will cause thousands worth of damage.
About 10 years ago I used Sharkbites to connect a new pex washing machine outlet box after my original soldered copper box started leaking badly. They were just suppose to be a temporary quick fix until I had more time to put in a 'proper' a copper-pex transition, but I ended up leaving them. Anyway, over a decade later after being attached to lines that experience hard water hammer effect, they're still there working great and remain dry as a bone.

If your Sharkbites leak, they weren't installed correctly.

I had an idiot plumber use these to install my water softener. Then he tried to convince me to pay him to do it right. I was so pissed.

I can't believe this deal turned into a plumbing DYI forum Smilie but you should invest in some Oatey "quiet pipes" washing machine anti-hammer devices. They screw on between the washer hose and the outlet, like these https://www.homedepot.com/p/OATEY.../100069256 they work great.
