That is kind of confusing then as the listing specs state:

The listing title then says FastFormat, not sure if that is referring to a feature of the drive or if that is the name of the Recertifiying company:

Update: FastFormat is a featue Segate drives have.

And then they define Manufacturer recertified as:

Talked to their customer service chat and they said they are recertified indeed by Seagate and that ServerPartDeals runs their own internal tests on top of it. That these drives are warrantied to have less than 50 power on hours.

attached the screenshots below.

Be aware that this drive is apparently pretty loud, as discussed during a previous sale here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...rpm_19999/

2-year ServerPartDeals warranty, NOT Manufacturer warrantied.

Ordered 14TB on Friday and ordered 12TB on Saturday, received both on Monday. Very fast shipping. Both drives were very well packaged with bubble wrap. SMART data was wiped as both show 0 power on hours.

14TB was made on 28Mar2021. 12TB was made on 08APR2021. Both passed SeaTool long test. Took about 24 hours each. Even if they were on 24/7 since they were made, it would would only be about 15,000 hours, should still have plenty of life left.

Both drives were fairly quiet. I have three other WD Red Pro's in my Qnap and I do not notice any additional noise. This is my first time buying Exos recerts, so hopefully they would last for a while. The $/TB is low enough that I am willing to take a chance.

My only other experience with Seagate recerts were two brand new Ironwolfs that failed within 6 months and Seagate sent me recerts under warranty. Those recerts have been working fine for the past 4+ years.

I've done a non quick format, ran it overnight on my 12tb, I gather the long format scans the disk surface. Ran crystaldiskinfo, smart says it's healthy. Is there something else I should do? Does the seatool long test do something my long format didn't?

Many thanks in advance Peace

The format you did I believe writes to the drive but reads nothing. The long tests from Seatools, at least one of them don't remember which, writes to every block random data and then reads it to make sure it matches. It also will fix the bad blocks or mark them as bad.

It will also test the hard drive's other functions such as parking the heads, checks the cache, spindowns, and I believe it will also tests the NAND where the firmware is, among other things.

Both my 12tb show the same 0hrs 1 power on. Is that reset from the refurb process?

Power on shows 1 power on count 0 hours. Crystal disk info. Doing a butterfly test using HDDscan. Physically well packaged as others say. Recertified is on the body and top. There is evidence on the top metal body that it has been slid in and out (probably of) a server. Otherwise it looks fine. 10000% SMART data was reset. I'll let the test run for a day to see how it turns out.

Tests looking good so far. Warranty shows 2023 when registered with seagate for the 12tbs. No idea if I could use it, but a possible Avenue I could try if it goes south

When I tried mine it said that warranty was not provided by Seagate. I got a 14TB one though.

Here is what I got so far:

CrystalDiskInfo:
Attachment 12730426

Seatools:

Attachment 12730465

Side by side comparison of brand new Exo16 14TB vs the Recert one, the only thing that can't be seen here is that the recert one on the metal chasis on the side has the words recertified laser etch into it. The only other thing that stands out to me is that the recert are made in china, the other one is from Thailand. The recert has two clear logos saying is a recert, one right below the Seagate brand and the other on the bottom near all the other logos saying Factory Recert Seagate. Also the certifications are kind of different between each others as if this recert was meant to a different market? Main difference are the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) logo and the UKCA one. Not an expert on this so anyone with more info about the logos please clarify.

Quick google indicates that the UR one is for devices that are meant to be used inside another and not the final product themselves, ie the drive on the left came from an external drive and was shucked, thus the UR logo. The UKCA indicate that it is a product meant to be sold on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).

I bought a 18TB. Cannot go back to anything smaller in size. The 2-year warranty is from the seller.

2-year is OK. If I buy a WD EasyStore like I did several years ago, the warranty is also 2 years. No more. No less.

And, I have to shuck the hard drive. In addition, there's the 3.0v pin hustle. So,

My 18TB has a letter J. Does it mean it was made for Japan? The DOM seems made (refurbished) Aug 2022.
