Why would they put sugar, in soy sauce!?

INGREDIENTS: SOY SAUCE (SOYBEAN, CORN, WATER, SUGAR, SODIUM BENZOATE), WATER, SUGAR, SALT, CARAMEL COLOR, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, CITRIC ACID TO REGULATE ACIDITY, POTASSIUM SORBATE AS A PRESERVATIVE.

Compare to Kikkoman

INGREDIENTS: WATER, WHEAT, SOYBEANS, SALT, SODIUM BENZOATE LESS THAN 1/10 OF 1% AS A PRESERVATIVE

Msg is natural occurring in soy sauce, a good quality product wouldn't need to add additional

The main point of the analogy was lost on you. The point is that Kikkoman is a good standard. It's distributed widely and most people know what it tastes like to compare against it. I like Kikkoman. Whether you like it or not, A&W is a standard root beer which people judge other root beers against. There are better, but they often cost far more. This is exactly the case with Kikkoman.

Anyone know which company makes this for Amazon? There is a big difference in flavor between brands, not to mention Japanese vs. Chinese vs. Korean, etc.

Kikkoman has been making soy sauce for more than100 years. I don't recall a brand that can top them in taste.

As true as that may be, Most dishes don't utilize a ton of the stuff, and most people wouldn't notice the difference in the end product. With all of these supply shortages, the last time I bought soy sauce I was forced to buy the kikoman brand because Walmart was out of my usual great value brand, and I didn't think the difference in price was worth a trip out of the way, to aldi. I've noticed zero difference in the end result of my recipes.!
