I have been looking at these portable devices for a few weeks, and I'm still researching.

I have 17 inch ASUS chromebook that I bought a few months ago for 79 dollars (best buy clearance New open box), and it works great with nice sound and bright picture. Spending 150 dollars for this with no internal battery seems expensive to me. Maybe a battery pack would work to power it. Also I have read if you use power from gaming console , it could kill the console , I saw youtube video where it happened to someone. He recommended not to plug into console to power it.

Mostly I'm buying 24-27 inch cheap monitors for 70-80 dollars , that are IPS, ... for my other pc's and devices. Or use my 65 inch 4k HDTV's to watch on attached to console or PC laptop/desktop.

curious about build quality. but imo, this is the best implementation of a portable monitor; a built in kickstand is just awesome.

i had a 15 inch monitor back then, no kickstand, so had to use some tablet holder, bad experience

Because they're portable...nothing difficult to understand. If you aren't traveling often, it's not something that'll be useful for you.

These are designed for people who need to travel. Imagine working a job that requires multiple windows open for spreadsheets, presentations, etc. And at the office or home, you have multiple monitors. But your job requires travel to clients for a significant period of time. And your employer only gives you a laptop.

This is a lifesaver. I've had 3 of these, starting with the old 14" 720p model. Getting to 1080 was great.

You pay for the portability. Just like a laptop.

Exactly. Most 15" monitors are already $100 plus, the cheapest I saw was $110 after taxes for a 1080p portable.

This is 17" 144hz for $50 more. It depends on how you want your setup to be but typically those run $180-$220+.

Overall, the portable monitor market is still unstable since they're not that much cheaper on aliexpress either. This is a great price if you're constantly traveling/wfh and need dual monitors for your laptop setup.

Is this a good deal for someone that doesn't use it for gaming? I need it for work bc I travel often and one laptop monitor sucks. Is there a cheaper option or is this the best deal?

This is called market economy. A consultant who makes 6 figure salary and travels often would have no problem paying for those portable monitors. They may even get the company to pay for it. On the other hand, people like this have zero need for a chromebook no matter how cheap it is.

The refresh rate is overkill for spreadsheet work, but you usually only get 15" for around $100-$150. So for around the same price, get an 2".

Granted it's refurbished, but that doesn't mean it's definitely worse than new.

15" no name brands can be had around $100-$120 price point.
