If you have a USB KVM switch, you can use this to connect your headphones to it and use it across multiple computers along with your keyboard and mouse.
It actually is a sound card as a new sound device shows up on device manager.
The headphone jack on one of my laptops went out, this is the solution.

Confused. What is the purpose of this?

Wouldn't pretty much all computers have sound already?

You may also want different audio streams to go to different devices. There's much more expensive and more involved methods that many use, but if it's simply you want to route audio from application A to this output and application B to another, depending on the options in the applications, this may be a method of achieving that.

I got one of these recently to solve the squirrelly headphone jack on my laptop. Absolute slam dunk solution - works perfectly.

Also useful if your desktop has only front panel USB ports, and the audio jacks are only in the rear

a lot of laptops only have one jack so this is nice if you have dedicated separate headphones and mic
