I'm happy with mine. I was really worried my girlfriend would hate making tea with it because it pours slow, but she likes it. Obviously it's good for pour-over but I need it to do both, and it has.
I didn't expect to use the timer on it but I like it.
$130 is too much for a kettle. I'd buy it again.
I own this and it works good but it isn't a big game changer or anything though. I originally paid $127 for the black version from Costco in July 2021. I have a cheaper kettle I like better now though. I wouldn't pay more than $40 if I were to buy it again.
Great looking Kettle, just keep in mind it only holds about 3 cups of water max. Also, the pouring time requires a bit of patience

I think with a claim like this on SD you should tell us what the better valued product is. If you tell us the product it's a helpful post.

That sounds like a warranty claim. Have you tried reaching out to Fellow? Their customer service is usually quite stellar.
Can attest. They replaced my kettle free of charge when I had an issue with it.

Note the improvements are entirely first world luxuries In order of importance to me
1. The big one for me - Auto Hold. As soon as you put the kettle down on the base the heating/hold resumes. On the Bonavita, you have to press the button once or twice to resume. If you're doing pour overs, with multiple pours, this make a big difference.
2. No overshooting set temperature. This is especially frustrating when resuming heat/hold. On the Bonavita, the water temperature tends to overshoot the set temperature by 1-3 degrees before it cuts out, and you now have to wait for the kettle to cool to the set temp. On the EKG, the heating slows down as it approaches the set temp and slowly creeps up to the temp
3. Flow rate from the EKG spout is (slower) better suited for pour overs. Bonavita has a more universal flow rate so it can work well for tea etc. as well
4. It's quieter
5. This is minor and makes no practical difference to me - the EKG heats up a little faster even with the slow down/creep up to set temp
6. Timer - some people find it useful. I don't like the interface (too easy to shut down the kettle instead of turning on the timer) so I never use it
Or you can buy this with all the benefits but for less than half of the cost.

Just at a glance you can see this kettle has a rubber seal on the lid that will be in contact with the water. This seems more like a nicer version of the generic $40 kettles, which could be a good value. I'd be interested if it were all-stainless internals like the Fellow Stagg.

Not rubber seal, it's silicon.

Bought one of these about a year back, definitely an expensive kettle. But the simplicity and ability to set temps to any between 105-212 is very nice to have, the footprint is good.

Definitely see this as a luxury item, and not worthwhile if you do not regularly need/want water at specific temps. I use this to make various teas, and coffee with my aero press, so the temp flexibility is good to have.

If you dont need to set specific temps, and a few presets are enough, there are a ton of models that are cheaper.

Ah. That is better. I was afraid the differences don't stop at one needing a gasket, because I'm not familiar with the brand. It does look nice, do you have hands-on experience with one? Does anyone?

These kettles have been awesome for me. I have both the goose neck and standard pour version as they share the same base. That way if Im making pour over coffee or tea Ive got the right tool for the job! Wink

For coffee I use the one below. It is $20 and works just as good without the digital display and doesn't look like it's trying to be a fancy reindeer or something

You can buy replacement lids ($15) and handles ($30) on their website
So your answer to a poor design is to waste more money?

That's like saying it's fine to buy a Hyundai car because you can buy replacement engines/transmissions. LOL

Looks pretty nice, esp for the price.
I have that same kettle, sold under a different brand on Amazon. It's trash. Takes a very long time to boil, often heats water way past the temperature I set it to, can't maintain temperature long when I pick the kettle up off the base, and often have to set it on the base several times before it starts heating again. Makes for inconsistent coffee, very frustrating.

Aldi had something similar on shelves last week (probably still there now) for $30. I suspect this is nicer but in case you're seeking a budget option.
We tried three of those Aldi kettles and returned each one. Not sure the Stagg is worth the price, but people should definitely get something better than those crappy Aldi ones.

I got the polished copper one 4 years ago for $135 shipped from watercheck.biz which doesn't even seem to really exist any more. But it's currently only $146.25 shipped direct from Fellow plus 5% cashback thru cap one shopping. I use this thing every day for pour over and love it. I've gone through a few cheaper gooseneck kettles as well for camping, etc, and it's just not the same experience. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. I do love the copper, but these wood handle versions are also very nice.
