It's a decent player and will play many non-US region blu-rays (but not all) without modification (unless there's been a recent firmware change that now disables it). Insert the disc. After it displays the region warning, press stop and then hit the top menu button twice (the first time it will give a "not supported" warning).

If you want the best sound and picture quality, 4k disc is the way to go.

My 10 year old son and I were streaming Rogue One the other day on Disney+. 4k with HDR. It looked great, but I told him I have the disc. Let's see if we can notice a difference.

I popped the disc in mid movie and we both felt the difference was obvious. The detail in the video was nicely improved. The sound was fuller and richer. The surround details were more distinct.

If you're a casual movie watcher who owns a low-end $500 TV then stick to streaming.

But for those of us who have a 5.1+ setup and a high end LED or OLED it is absolutely worth the money. 4k streaming is about the quality of a 1080p blu ray.

How regretful will I be for not having Dolby Vision? I have read it is mostly a licensing cash grab rather than any discernible difference between HDR10.

Great question & would like to know as well of people's opinions.
That said, if Google's plan to challenge Dolby by developing a free standard to replace Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Then it may not be regretful @ all.

folks with limited budgets
buy cheap 55" or 58" inch tcl or hi sense, stream basic netflix and call it day

folks who want better picture
buy 65" oleds and mini-led tvs with better sound and picture quality, and pay upcharge for 4k netflix etc

folks who want a better picture and better surround sound
buys 65" oleds and mini-led tvs as well as a dedicated dobly atmos sound bar, and pay extra for 4k netflix

folks who are audio/videophiles
buy 120" short throw projectors as well as a 7.1.2 dobly atmos speaker setup and use dedicated blue ray player with uncompressed multichannel audio in Dobly TrueHD or DTS-HD master audio.

of course anyone can call themselves an audiophile and videophile so who knows and who cares.

Dolby Vision is much better that HDR10. There is a depth to movies with Dolby Vision that is defiantly noticeable. It's the premium HDR choice, and it comes with a price.

People have been saying that about that DVD for years & they out sell BD & 4K disc combined!
Until inferior streaming content can catch up to disc quality especially on the AQ side I doubt it's going anywhere!
