After you've completed the required days, the promos will be moved from the In Progress column to the Earned column. That's when it's safe for you to cancel your Fi service. In your Fi account, click on Account-->Your Plan. Scroll down until you see Leave Fi, click on it. It will give you options on what to do (cancel, pause, port out etc). Since the 1st bill usually started 2 days after your service was activated, the 61st day should be 2 or more days before the 3rd billing period starts. Cancel promptly on the 61st day and you won't be charged the 3rd bill.

you don't have to since even iphone 8 or SE 2nd gen @$150 will suffice ($600-200-250-150). If you want Pro then iphone 11 is enough since it fetches $330 as trade in ($900-300-250-330).

In case useful for anyone, here is an update regarding activation of the phone with a physical sim bought from Amazon. Easily activated, activation checkmark in the account within a few hours. Countdown started. I took the sim out the next day and countdown continued. The next day, I put a different non-Fi sim card for 5 minutes in the phone and made a couple of calls and took it out to see if that affects the countdown, which didn't.
