I've done a bunch of these trade ins. One time my package didn't update for 9 days and then it finally got a scan in PA, which is not enroute to the delivery.
Then it got re-routed to Indianapolis -> Memphis -> Nashville.
Took about 3.5 weeks for the package to deliver. It never got a delivery scan. Then another 10 days for Google to acknowledge receiving my trade in kit.
Google said my trade in quote had expired as 4 weeks had elapsed. Google refused to refund me on the original quote, but ultimately relented and gave me a courtesy "store credit". TOC states - device must be "received" by Google within 30 days of initiation of the trade in.
These days, I just send the trade in, the same day that I receive the kit. Even then end up biting my nails until I get the credit.
I suspect that'd void the promo unless the new user is in the same group plan as the purchaser.

Do these phone deals always make FP? I set a deal alert called Trade in, but don't get meaningful results from that.
One time my trade in reached Google, but it did not have a delivery scan. All the Google CSRs just told me that USPS lost the package. Also we cannot do a lost package claim since the creator of the label is Google and they have to initiate any claim.
Ultimately if things don't go right it takes tons of emails and follow ups with Google CSR for any meaningful help. The mythical higher level support team or product team does nothing. And there is no way to directly contact them.

I have a feeling that Google always treat mobile phones with less priority.

I think you can add insurance at the Post Office for your package.
