Why every 8 weeks ? You transfer it outside every 8 weeks ?

Depending what I'm growing I'll harvest around that time… could be 8 weeks, could be 12, longer… just depends what I'm growing and how much I use it up. Like lettuces I'll make salads, lettuce wraps, add to burritos, tacos, etc. for a couple/few months. Eventually I'll just harvest the rest and start a new garden. I suppose I could try to transfer outside but I have never grown anything outside before and didn't think of that. Thanks for the idea!

Need to grow scallions. They're so expensive these days.

If you buy them with the roots, cut them about an inch above the roots and put that part in water when you need to use some up. It'll grow into another onion. Change the water every 2-3 days. Also, when you get home from the store put them in water and trim a bit from each of the tops and trim off any dead/weird looking bits to keep them healthy. Change that water every 2-3 days as well and they should last you a long time.

Are you guys just getting these for the fun of growing things And because you have no garden outside? Because you could just buy organic already grown herbs much cheaper...it looks like a PITA to have to get specific supplies. how much attention do you have to give these things? It would be great to have some clean summer herbs to snip in the winter but some herbs are so easy you just plant them once outside and never have to take care of them like Rosemary, Oregano, thyme... Can summer herbs and vegetables grown in these things taste as good as those Grown outside? or be as nutritious??
Some people are stuck living in place with no outdoor space available and end up paying 6 bucks for a little bin of leaves that wilts in a few days. Or someplace outrageously hot. Or like me cats that get into everything. and this will let me grow stuff on top of the fridge where they can't get to.

I'm guessing you do not have Maine Coons since the top of the fridge is nothing for them to jump up to. Smilie

for fun and for culinary enthusiasts, it's very easy to love them and many of us have 4 or 5. I have a larger one I grow asian herbs that aren't locally available in, one that I grow quick greens in, an Italian herb one. Maintenance is minimal and all supplies are pretty cheap in bulk. my basils taste and look better than any I've grown outside or can buy. Something no one has mentioned is that you can get seed starter kits that allow you to start 28 plants in a unit, I've been starting all my spring plants indoors this way for years, I can grow 50-70 starts at a time, and then transfer them to small pots under lights and then harden and plant them in an endless shuffle. I give away many of them because it's fun and easy. Hands down the most successful method I've ever used for seeds, my plant starts are healthy and strong with big healthy roots by the time they are planted, great rates of germination and survival after transplant, and it gives me the opportunity to have a great variety of herbs and veggies that aren't available. There are a lot of forums for enthusiasts that will help you problem solve or modify, also commonly used for easy cannabis plant starts before soil or bigger hydro.

Dumb question but could I grow berries or apples in these? Or need larger, outdoor area for it?

Apples, no, that's a tree. Berries- depends on the berry. I've seen several people successfully grow dwarf strawberries in them. It's not very productive, but fun.

Mine arrived today. I was surprised it was just a regular box with no markings but looks like factory packed. Wife is excited! She had me order some pods right away. I guess no matter how long you have been married you can still hit it out of the ball park now and then Smilie
