the battery is not replaceable in this unit so after a year or two it won't last very long and then after another year it will be worthless.

You have to disassemble these to replace battery, the ones that are "user replaceable " have a door with single screw retention.

Contrary to what people thing the battery in these ARE user replaceable. However they aren't as intuitive as the older ones since you need a long Philips head screwdriver to reach the screws. Can get it at Harbor Freight. The older one was way easier to access

Mine lasted 4 years before it died. And when it dies you can't use it as a normal surge protector. Makes a siren noise that is unmutable and keeps going till it's unplugged.

YMMV for sure. Nearest unit is 156 miles away for me.

So what's the point of these if you have to replace them yearly?

They have 3 year warranty, for part and labor.

Don't buy this. Better to just buy the Amazon basic one that a little more. It has user replacement battery and the batter can be upgraded.

But it has a 3 year warranty right, so we should be good for at least 3 years ?

My old APC Batter Backup is still connected to my Windows 7 desktop via a cable, and automatically shuts the computer off if a power is interrupted.

I finally bought a Windows 11 desktop, and I'm wondering af this Backup has software - or if it's included in Widows 11 - that will allow the Backup to automatically turn the computer off if it senses a power interruption?

Thanks!

I haven't looked up the warranty terms, but you might have to pay to send it back or they might not cover "normal wear and tear" like the battery losing capacity.

I have this exact unit and replaced the battery with a generic from the Batteries Plus down the street.

I'm not sure if something changed, but I would imagine it's still the same, which would mean, you can replace the battery.

No can do; it looks like this unit is missing the USB port, which allows the control data back to the computer. This ($79.99) one seems to have the USB B port:

According to the Q&A page, APC says "The batteries in the BN450M are not user replaceable."
