So I don't mean to crap on this thread, but I did want to share my experience. In other threads on this deal, there was discussion about whether an extended warranty for these units is available. Posters mentioned that after you receive an invoice on your Newegg account, there should be an option to purchase an extended warranty. I am NOT seeing this option on my invoice page.

I bought one of these a little over a week ago. It arrived in decent shape -- a few scuffs, but only 12 miles registered on the app. I was really happy with it cosmetically.
Unfortunately though, it appears DOA, as I cannot get the throttle or brake to engage. I checked online and haven't found a lot of resources or guidance for this particular issue. Thankfully, this is covered by Newegg's "no hassle" warranty through early January, so I can exchange or return if I cannot figure out what's going on. But so far as I can tell, after that expires, I am on my own. Again, I don't see any option to purchase an extended warranty through Newegg.

To be honest, after this experience, I am sort of lukewarm on whether I want to exchange for a working unit, or just get my money back. These things seem sort of finnicky, and there's very little "official" technical support available. The manufacturer phone number Newegg provided is to a cell phone with no voicemail box (I tried three times). And I didn't see much online in the way of official guides or FAQs. The Segway app links to community forum, where users try to crowdsource each other's problems. Seems pretty lazy on Segway's part. I'm going to see if I have better luck calling the tech support line on Segway's site. But I'd hate to be in this position once the Newegg return period closes.

That said, if anybody has thoughts or technical advice, I am all ears.

Same happened to me but it was actually my bad. i did not know I have to make it go faster than 5m/h before I can trigger the throttle. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It isn't discontinued. It is a ES4 rebranded as an ES3 Plus to make it an exclusive Costco model. Check the specs, they are identical.

oh hell to the NO! I'm pretty sure that label should cover it. Those labels are typically open ended and if there are additional fees they just charge the store - not you.

I'm also wondering if this is a discontinued model. Is it? I can't find it on the main Segway website. They have the ES2 and the ES4 but NOT the ES3. Weird. If discontinued.......I'm good then. I'd skip.

Nope. I can confirm. I just clicked on my invoice on Newegg, clicked return, and then printed out a label. I put the scooter back in its box, taped it up, and dropped it off at the UPS store. Apart from carrying the box down the block hoisted on my shoulder, the return process was fairly painless.

Maybe I will try again. I sort of want to do some investigation to determine how easy these are to service . . . because I kind of get the feeling I'll be servicing this thing a time or two during its life (i.e., it didn't seem particularly well built).

That is really helpful. I didn't realize this. That said, if anybody's looking at this, I'd read through the Amazon reviews for the ES4 -- order them by date. Most of the recent reviews for this item are pretty awful. And with no extended warranty for this item through SquareTrade or Newegg, caveat emptor.
