While it does indeed lower the price on the combo, the price for the impact wrench is at full price.

Yes you return the impact wrench for refund and only pay for combo kit - the hack

Shows $53 in cart which is an alright deal but the hack a couple weeks ago for the 1/2 Drill kit + free gift brought the two pack down to $39 which was insane. I got in on that and was able to cancel the drill kit since it was on backorder for over a week. Only dumb thing is HD doesn't have a chat on their site and I had to call their 1888 number to do it but it was without resistance.

It was so much easier when you could ship one and pick up the other and then cancel the one that was shipped...good deal OP!

How do you cancel? Previously, I was able to cancel select items from my order, but selecting the "cancel order" button now says my order is ineligible.
