A hack of a hack is another way of saying fraud. It is fraudulent to return something for more than you paid.

The actual hack prorates the values of the items on the receipt, so that if you choose to return/cancel a part of the order you get the legitimately prorated amount back, not the full retail value.

Is this true that hacks no longer work? Like if you want to return this to keep the prorated gift you can't really do that anymore as HD asks to return both items?

If anything it will declare the items at a certain value, so if you return one you're only getting a percentage of that exact item returned back in cash.

Now you could take the free gift and return it without receipt for store credit though

You need to provide ID for this. I was flagged for making moderately normal returns without receipts and couldn't return for over a year. I did this at HD a lot since I was always there I didn't mind store credit at all and had no idea they could do that. I think it's called the retail equation or something like that

$72.65 for the 4-tool kit after hack. (e.g. returning the 1/2" Brushless Impact, which rings up as $86.35 — itself a deal after hack as well.).

Or heck - keep both, and sleep well knowing each was a solid deal.

In my home depot cart is says that the 4 tool combo kit is priced at $84.84 and the free tool (circular saw) is priced at $74.16 so is that not accurate?

$72.65 for the kit after hack (using impact wrench) seems like a definite Slickdeal. Not sure why this doesn't have more traction.

Looks like you need to choose the same shipping/pickup method. This is one of the ways to hack these deals.

Anyone else having issues returning one of the items these days? I went to three different HDs on the 6 port charger hack and two of them told me I need to return both. The third one did it without question though. I have most of the tools I need at this point and haven't done a hack in 6 months or so, but last time I also had a store tell me that I need to return both.

My understanding after doing the hack twice, is that you have to return either the free item or the kit, not a part of the kit. It should be what shows up under one prorated price or the other. That is two items, the kit and the free item. If you want to keep the kit, choose the highest cost "free" item to get the best price. If you choose the batts as the "free" item the kit is $106, if you choose the 1/2 impact as the "free" item, the kit is $73. You can have both items sent to either home or in / to store. No you would need to return the bundle. Just keep the driver and wrench and sell everything else on craigslist or whatever

What happened after you got flagged? Were you prevented from further returns?
