From the RTINGS Review

Compared to Sonos One SL
The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speaker and the Sonos One SL are similar speakers. The Sonos is smaller and has a more neutral-sounding sound profile. However, the IKEA can get slightly louder than the Sonos with fewer compression artifacts present at max volume, so your audio sounds clearer during louder listening sessions.

He means the actual surround setup, which is limited to the sound bar, two surrounds and a sub (or two subs). You can add as many of these to your house as you want, but each surround sound setup is limited.

Can't add more to your surround setup.

They updated the internals of these Symfonisk speakers which partially accounted for the increase from $100 to $120.

From The Verge...The new models have a faster processor, more memory, and lower power consumption in standby mode.

I don't know how to quote everyone with questions so I'll try my best to answer some here. I have a sonos beam as my soundbar to my living room tv, two symfonisk speakers paired with the beam as surrounds, hacked the rear right one to be able to attach an external 12" sub, 2 x sonos play:1's in two separate rooms, a play:3 in my kitchen, 2x ones in other rooms, and a single symfonisk also hacked to add a Polk 10" sub to that for the screen room. Everything plays AWESOME. Beats anything Bose could do especially with ease of playing from streaming sources. The ones I have have mics built in for alexa integration and the one sl are the same speaker without mics. As far as sound goes, I cannot distinguish a difference between the symfonisk bookshelf speaker vs the play:1s nor the ones. The sonos speakers sound clearer at higher volumes to me but that could just be me. I absolutely love the fidelity of sonos' speakers. I am looking to move my beam to my bedroom and replace the living room with the arc, a sonos sub and two one sl's to be the surround system. That'll free up the other speakers move to other rooms for more all-encompassing music for the whole house. I hope this helps anyone with questions and feel free to ask any more that I haven't answered.
are you able to pair 2 surrounds and the hacked one for sub with the beam? or are you only able to pair the hacked sub with 1 extra surround.

i looked at this a few years back and we had to use the apple sonos app to do the digital eq, is that still the case or does it all kind of "work" now

skimming the thread, it seems i can only pair 2 speakers to act as surronds with a beam but i can group additional they just wont act as surrounds, is that correct?

I understand sonos is great for controlling your music in multiple rooms around the house, but how does it handle multiple inputs? i have a tv on my patio, a projector with bluetooth soundbar in my living room, and then i also want to listen in my room and the kitchen and my garage. can i easily switch between inputs so i can have spotify on my phone throughout the house or each tv playing in its local speakers only? or would it be better to just put one in each room to play spotify from my phone and keep using the tv speakers if i dont want it to play tv sound throught the house? thanks!
You have to be on Sonos ecosystem which uses WiFi. You can't use non-Sonos equipment within the ecosystem. Basically you have to go all (soundbar, surrounds, sub, etc) in to reap the benefits of Sonos. Once you do that you can manipulate everything with the Sonos app that you asked about.

Couldn't find these or the lamps inside of the store today even though the website said there was stock, too bad I guess, wanted an additional pair or a lamp for my room.
Not sure about your store, but at ours you need to place an order with an employee and collect it after checking out.

These appear to be backordered. Not sure if others are still waiting to receive them as well.

I got one of these a few years ago from ikea. It is really nice and I would recommend it. Sound is very rich for the size. Obviously bass will not surprise you but overall sound is great.

Got it, thank you! TU for still a good deal, as I paid MSRP for a pair ~6 months ago.
Ikea has a 365 day return policy so if you have the receipt you could probably get it price adjusted/ return & repurchase

Care to share the hack detail to get the standard subwoofer in? I'm currently using an onkyo amplifier to add yamaha sub. I connected thru HDMI ARC to TV. Works great but I have to turn on both TV and amplifier to use the sub. This setup not as flexible as your hack.
Look on YouTube for the jack I did it last week and it's pretty easy

It's not powering the sub, the sub's amp does that. If your sub doesn't have the ability to handle a powered signal from the SYMFONISK, you can get a converter for $15 to to the job: (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/metr...d=1265702) . It converts the speaker level output from the Sonos and lowers to line-level for the powered sub.

I followed this guy's very detailed instructions on YT and used with a Jamo 8" sub found on SD that had the right form factor for my living room.
I just used an rca line and cut it and soldered it to the bass poles. Works perfectly

I didn't realize this was for one speaker. You can pick up the SL for around $60-$100 apiece. Better all around speaker and you can do the sun hack.

Not sure where you can find an SL for $60 and the Ikea speaker is much easier to dismantle without destroying it.

Bought one the other day off Facebook. Bought two at a pawn shop for 140. The year down is easier that the ikea ones. At least the ones on you tube where you put posts on. I did it in an hour.
