From the RTINGS Review

Compared to Sonos One SL
The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speaker and the Sonos One SL are similar speakers. The Sonos is smaller and has a more neutral-sounding sound profile. However, the IKEA can get slightly louder than the Sonos with fewer compression artifacts present at max volume, so your audio sounds clearer during louder listening sessions.

He means the actual surround setup, which is limited to the sound bar, two surrounds and a sub (or two subs). You can add as many of these to your house as you want, but each surround sound setup is limited.

Can't add more to your surround setup.

Bought one the other day off Facebook. Bought two at a pawn shop for 140. The year down is easier that the ikea ones. At least the ones on you tube where you put posts on. I did it in an hour.
Good that you found some used deals, the Ikea speaker took about 15 minutes tops to open up and disconnect.

Out of genuine curiosity, why not?

I thought that was the whole point of Sonos. Are these just not fully compatible?
I have the sound bar, 2 ones, a sub and 2 of these which are connected to the TV. The trick is to cast the audio using the Sonos app as a single setup cannot handle all of these on a single surround configuration

Can these be used with the Brennan B2 cd jukebox device - does anyone know? I looked through the 6 pages of comments and hopefully didn't miss anyone speaking of it.

Brennan says they work with Sonos but not sure of it works with the ikea version of the speaker.

Ikea sonos has a crappy inferior wifi chipset compared to actual sonos. Make sure you have good wifi signal. That is why it is cheaper for a reason. But their ikea sonos products have their own use case i guess. My picture frame keeps dropping sound. These one off ikea sonos used for surround. I'd never found out if they ever drop sound unless I actually pay attention. All in all, i'd love to pay for premium if sonos actually makes something similar and drop the whole collaboration thing.
I think that mostly due to the fact that IKEA only supports 2.4GHz while SONOS can do 5GHz. I have the same problem with one device that does not support 5GHz and always drops connection. If you have a Wi-Fi router that can handle both independently you should be fine but some older routers tend to drop all devices to the lowest band etc.

They are almost the same speaker, it really comes to preference. They are differently shaped, if the Symfonisk shape does not bother you go for the Symfonisk and save money.

Can they be added to Play:5? I am trying to start using my Play :5 but casting seems more difficult than just Google Hub
