Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.
Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
- Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
- You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
- You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
- If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
- (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
- 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
- 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.

However, I do want the boombox back. Indeed the ice cream truck made me a big hit while pick up kids at elementary school.
I don't think this was expected. Basically they're saying all Model Ys are 'cars' and fall under the $55K limit, unless you get the 7-seater.
What's weird is the 5-seat ID.4 is on the list as eligible at 80k rather than 55k- while the 5-seat Model Y and Mach E are at 55k- despite all of em being generally SUV shaped.
It wouldn't surprise me if that list ends up being revised in the near future.... on top of that there's a critical minerals component to the rebate (half of it!) that currently all cars on the list will get because the IRS is late publishing guidelines for it... but they're supposed to do so by April- at which point a LOT of cars on the list could potentially fall off of it depending on that guidance.
THAT said there appears to also be a potential loophole in that commercial vehicles get to bypass a lot of the requirements to qualify for the credit-- and treasury classifies leased vehicles as commercial (even if they're normally regular passenger vehicles)-- so leasing potentially lets you capture the full $7500 credit regardless of what model, trim, or MSRP you buy (and regardless of your income level too-- because it's the lease company actually getting the rebate and passing it through in the lease price).
It can do some amazing things, for sure. But FSD is just way harder than anyone probably ever thought.
Radar could immediately fix at least 3 issues
1) Better close-to-the-car views for parking, smart summon, etc... esp. in light of the USS being removed.
2) Better cross-traffic speed and distance detection at partly obstructed intersections-- esp given the limited field of view of the B-pillars unless the car creep forward enough.
3) I'd get the 1 setting back on the highway
(and if the new radar is both front and rear- though I sort of doubt it is- it'd also allow them to add rear cross-traffic detection)

I want to point out something to my fellow slickdealers. They no longer give the voucher but I asked and they gave me a free mobile charger!

I was out of town for work so had to book flights to come back twice to find out they moved it--lost $1000 right there on those flights. This is something they definitely need to improve.
But since then, we've not had to do anything to the car besides replace the rear tires. And this is a welcome change since I have lists of stuff that has to be done on all my other cars. This 'zero maintenance business model' is a game changer for me. I just charge it, drive it, and enjoy it. I'm done with driving anything else.
