Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

When i picked up mine yesterday they were saying that the dealership will be open until 1AM in the morning on the 31st.
So Iam surprised that some of the showrooms are already closed!
You mean 1AM 1/1/2023? Would that disqualify the customer from the discount? Technically at that point the $7500 federal tax rebate kicks in.

Another update to my Tesla buying experience. Got a call from the home delivery driver around 8am today and told he's on his way and will be here in 30. Texted me when he got here and the car is in my driveway. Told him that it's my first Tesla. He said he did a exterior walk around and took pics on his phone and said no damages. We then sat inside and he did a fairly thorough review of the car and operations. Young kid, probably in his 20s. It was raining so it's hard to look for scratches. He took a Uber back. Overall a decent ending to a rollercoaster day of weird Tesla delivery logistics. Note to new owners…. Do not open the rear hatch/lift gate in the GARAGE. I did and it crashed against a metal lip in the garage door. Open it in the driveway. Pull it half down and hold down the button to set it as default. Then park in garage, pop it, and adjust it to the right position.

Only if you're buying the 7-seater version of the Model Y.

Which of course lessens the discount as the 7 is a $3k upgrade. I personally don't have a use for 7 seats

Are you guys all ok with buying a $60k car without something as basic as ultrasonic parking sensors?

These new cars do not have parking sensors, so you have no idea how close you are to objects around the front or back of the car. The sensors are ubiquitous on every car now but Tesla decided their cars don't need them.

Tesla decided they have a better tech to replace that functionality

Yes, but Tesla also said their cars would be robot taxi 2 years ago and the cybertruck would be on sale. The fact of the matter is the cars now do not have any means of measuring distance around the vehicle and you are trusting Tesla that Tesla vision will be at least as good as sensors, and that it will be out at some reasonable time in the future.

EDIT: they also said Tesla vision would be better than radar and removed radar from the vehicles, and now there are rumors of Tesla adding radar hardware again to cars in the new year cause they couldn't get vision to work well enough.

My friend just sent me a picture of the dealership in bay area. In the meantime, still wondering where's my car.

Elon tweeting something about robo-taxis is not the same thing as a product update on their official website.

This is true. Took the delivery two days back and no warnings whatsoever on the closer objects. No idea when they will fix this as a part of vision tech

Ok got it. I hope all these cars without USS get the vision update asap. In the mean time thank god for the 360 camera.

So that's why when I pulled into the garage today, the car didn't tell me any warnings… there was a picture of a semi that keeps flashing on the screen as I inches forward… lol. Good times
