light bulbs are now required to produce a minimum amount of light per watt used or they cannot be sold in California. May be this is the reason.

My home is 100% daylight bulbs. Warm light outs me to sleep and is awful seeing true color of everything

It's more of personal preference. Ever since I got my first 5K Daylight bulb, I changed all the lighting in my home and office to 5K lights and never went back.

These are mostly used in small can lighting. I have no idea who would want daylight (5000k) bulbs as overhead lighting. Feels like you're in an operating room.

I use 5000k in my home gym. Makes it feel a little more serious. But I definitely agree it's otherwise not terribly suitable for home use.

5000k is awful in residentially settings, the lumens per watt isn't great, and 80 color rendering isn't good.

Anything <$1 per bulb is a good deal in my book. Dimmable too. Nice!
5000k definitely has it's uses. Like bathroom lighting as a user above stated. Basement/garages can also benefit. Though not ideal for living rooms or bedrooms if you like the warm cozy lighting of 2.7k
