Way too much. These were $119 or $129 and that was a deal. Like a year ago!

Are you talking about this one which is 64GB eMMC? Or the 32GB eMMC one?

I can't remember it may have been only 32gb but otherwise same specs. Given how cheap flash is and the fact that the cost difference between a 32gb and a 64gb eMMC is about $2 I would not expect to pay any more.

Yes it was the 32gb one. It was $119.99. I brought a open box excellent condition one for $79.99. I was also looking to pick up the 64gb one. But I also think that price is to high. Maybe in the near future it will drop to $129.

Definitely not much of a deal unless a 17" screen (and the full size keyboard) are must-have items for you in your basic chromebook. However, another recent deal on a "basic" ASUS chromebook highlights the challenge: that 14" chromebook came in at the $119 price point but included 8GB of RAM and a 2-core/4-thread i-series CPU (rather than the 4GB of RAM and the 2-core/2-thread Atom-based CPU in this 17" ASUS). There's an ongoing deal right now for another $179 ASUS chromebook that incorporates the improved CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a touchscreen at its price point.

Of course, chromebooks remain one of the few laptops where 17" screens do often command a premium (perhaps out of rarity?) so in this case you'd have to ask whether a CPU and RAM downgrade is acceptable while also paying a $60 premium over a directly comparable model. Alternatively, consider that the more premium 14" touch screen model packs touch screen functionality, an improved CPU, and greater RAM at the same price.

The price in this deal wouldn't have seemed so bad prior to the aggressive pricing chromebooks have reached in the past month. Otherwise, this particular model probably appeals to very few and asks for the buyer to accept too much at the given price point to be considered a particularly slick deal.

Good luck!
Jon

Same here, for $76 it was a steal. The 1080p display at 17" looks so good when I'm on YouTube. Wouldn't spend $180 on it though

That was also for last year's model's that came with only 32gb storage. I purchased mine then for the lower price and then they had a Open Box deal at Best Buy and sold them for $78.00!!

4 GB RAM is a no go for me, but I'm intrigued by the idea of getting a stupid huge 17.3" Chromebook.
