tplink has been adding trash to their phone app (which is needed to configure the router). They took away the ability to limit internet access to clients and moved it into a "pro" paid subscription, among other features we used to have included.

Don't buy a router right now, wifi 7 is being rolled out in the next 3 months. Ces product announcements are ongoing.

Once it's in shelves, all the wifi 6 and 6e products will be heavily discounted. Wifi 7 is 3x throughput of 6e.

Hold the line and you'll save way more when they clear out 6 and 6e

Highly recommended. I don't even think about the home network anymore, and this is with 50+ clients and 6 cameras recording 24/7.

I happily paid $250 for this back in April. Excellent router with excellent configurability. I upgraded an old AC 68U so I was familiar with ASUS already. I use the Merlin firmware.

How necessary is this for me? I don't really spend more than $50/month for internet, and with comcast, that usually means around 300 mbps. I don't have any smart devices hooked up to it and won't usually do more than computer + laptop, video game systems, and phones.

I've tried doing research into this but there's SO many variables, the guides are daunting to go through.

This is for a larger house and many connections. If its just you and a handful of devices its overkill. There are cheaper routers to get you 300Mbps. If you're wired you'll need a router with a 1.5G port otherwise WIFI6 gets you there.

This is a solid router though. I use it for a 2200 sq' house and I get coverage through the entire quarter acre although its spotty near the edges. I am looking at expanding my network considerably and will probably pick up a second one of these for mesh.
