I thought the same thing for years until I needed new hearing aids. Health insurance rarely covers them and inexpensive ones for my type of hearing loss are not effective in the workplace. Thus, my hearing aids from an audiologist (doesn't matter which one, all charged about the same) cost around $7,000. I then noticed Costco sold hearing aids one day while at a store and the price was $3,700 with a better warranty, and even the same brand with minor differences in features. You can guess what happened, I dumped the independent audiologist. Now, my health insurance covers hearings aids every five years for $3,500, so I paid $200 for my last set.

Let me know when Walmart and Amazon sell hearing aids for the same and less than Costco. Note that the recent change in the FDA regulations re hearing aids does not apply to me, since my loss is profound and for this type of hearing loss you still need to see an ENT/audiologist for fittings.

Good thing that I have job that pays well. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford hearing aids and would probably be on welfare since 85% of deaf/hard of hearing people are unemployed or under-employed (even in this tech-heavy society). Crazy how the U.S. works. Somehow people think that it is better to moan and groan about people on welfare instead of giving hard of hearing people hearing aids every five years so that they can become employable and taxpayers. Medicare does not pay for hearings aids either, but Medicaid does.

Anyway, just be glad that you (making an assumption here) do not need to spend thousands every 3-5 years for equipment that most other people do not.

FWIW, I picked up this 14.5" Ryzen Slim 7 Pro X refurb yesterday for $818 + FS before tax:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/155268982303

Edit: List price is $929, a further 12% is taken off during checkout. I've added a screenshot of the price breakdown.

Specs are pretty amazing for the price: 32GB DDR5, 1TB Gen4 SSD (upgradeable), RTX 3050, 120Hz panel. It's on sale for $1299 at Costco.

I actually made a post this morning but it got removed, I believe because the seller is about a 1000 reviews short of the 10k minimum (updated eBay policy). Anyway, curious to hear what you guys think.

This is their extremely cut down mobile GPU, it was never intended to go against high end Nvidia GPUs, but to be mostly for creators, especially video encoding (which it surpasses Nvidia at). This has 8 Xe cores, while their desktop cards have 32. Basically Intel never released a high end gaming GPU for mobile, just stuff for creators/mixed use.

I agree that if you're looking for specifically for a gaming laptop, at $900 this isnt a good deal, it is the cheapest laptop with a 12700H and dGPU, but for $100 more you can get something like an MSI Katana with a 12700H+3060, which is far far better at gaming, but quality control is worse, doesnt have a touchscreen, etc. The people that are best suited for this laptop are content creators, hence the 32Gb of RAM, 1Tb SSD, and Arc.

Perfectly capable setup here for that. Heck even integrated Intel Xe graphics can be utilized with Adobe softwares and have no issues.

It's when you get into the rendering end like Blender, where having a dedicated GPU helps. Even then it's just a matter of output time really and frame generation, as you move up in GPU segment.
Thank you. I was hoping someone had some experiences with these graphics cards, but I realize they are a bit new.

Good deal, hate Costco. Will never shop at a place that makes you pay to shop there. There is nothing special these warehouse clubs you can't get elsewhere. Amazon/Walmart has proven that they have the same stuff and at better prices.

EDIT
For the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i , the ram is sodered onto the board and the laptop only has support for 1 M2 drive.

Yes, I've had one new since August and I love it. Great build quality, good performance, good battery life, you name it. It checks all the boxes for me and really feels premium. It's the only laptop that I've gone back to over and over again after trying others.

You do you but it all depends on what you buy. Easily cover the cost of membership and more just on gas alone. Pair that with the rewards credit card and have come out ahead every year

Ah, happy to hear it. I've been agonizing over what laptop to get to replace my 2017 Surface Book 2, felt like every potential candidate always had some sort of deal breaker. This was the first one that checked all the major boxes and looked and felt great in person.

Worse.

This "gpu" is weak as ish. 1650 is better at gaming.

1080p gaming:
Cyberpunk 2077 low - 46 fps
God of War low - 35fps
Far Cry 6 med - 44fps
Guardians of the Galaxy med - 14fps
Assassins Creed Valhalla med - 33fps

Looks like a 720p gaming card. 🤮

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Int...623.0.html [notebookcheck.net]
Its a 1080p60 medium card. [yahoo.com]

Notebookcheck used extremely old drivers for their review, and didnt bother to check for updates when reviewing Arc GPUs. And since Arc GPUs are new, there is a drastic difference between the first drivers and drivers now (like 8 months after mobile Arc launched). They also didnt change the power settings to allow the card to fully run at max performance.

While not many websites actually review laptops in details, Notebookcheck gives a lot of bad data, to the point where I wouldnt bother looking at their reviews.

Overall performance is around GTX 1650 levels with the latest drivers

Had no idea Costco sold hearing aids, never needed them. Glad it worked out for you. I suppose if you are buying bulk, the membership fee could be worth it. Just seems these warehouse clubs could drop the membership fees and still make a killing. The average person spends $200+ per shopping trip at these warehouse clubs. Costco and Sam's Club are always packed with customers, BJ's seems very quiet, even on a Saturday.

Used to belong to Sam's Club just to get gas, but the long gas lines and distance away was not worth it the time and trip to go there.

Bought this a few months ago for 1100 at Costco. The specs are right, this computer is absolute trash though. Several issues with it, including a blue screen of death the 2nd time I turned it on. Randomly freezes, yesterday it wouldn't power on for over an hour. Just garbage and I'm mad I already moved everything over to it.

most likely BSOD is related to hardware issue from my experience (memory, motherboard, etc.), I'd exchange it for another one.
