I'm looking for an upgrade from 9900k to either 12900k or 13700k, is that a good price I can just place the order anyway or will the price be bettter somewhere?
I must be from the Apollo era... What exactly does unlocked mean? Are CPU's now being locked to OEM's like Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc?
It about the CPU multiplier, intel cpu without the K letter has their cpu frequency multiplier locked to intel default. While you can manipulate the cpu's multipler with those with letter K to get a better performance. Ultimately intel charge more greens on these K letters, so sometimes it's not that worthwhile. But to those who want to play around with their hardware, they prefer those with the K letters

Now we buy the performance level we want, and undervolt it instead.
For $20 more anyone considering this CPU should go for the 13700.
