Pricing is currently normal TurboTax + $10. This should drop when the deal goes live on 12/28. Don't bother trying to buy it early.

There are no referral links, they are Amazon Smile links.

Yes it's being delayed a year, there's an article abt it at irs.gov. However, it was only ever a reporting change; you've always owed taxes on PayPal/Venmo/etc business income whether it was $20K, $600, or $10. You owe the same taxes you've always owed, it'll just be a lot harder to cheat now (2023 tax year with delay)

Besides my Roth 401k's at work, if all I have is a few traditional and roth IRA's that I never touch (passive investor), a couple of checking accounts that gain essentially no interest, a savings account and a brokerage account that I haven't bought or sold anything all year on (reinvest the small dividend income some pay), I am required to spend the extra $20 to get the Premier and can't use Deluxe?

Last year I was able to figure out how to do all of this on Cash App (formerly Tax Karma) for free but it was a pain because it all had to be done from my smart phone and in 2022 we had our first son so that adds another curve ball in filing this time so I'm considering finally purchasing software.

I've used Online for quite a while, and was going to again this year, but made it the rest of the way through the thread and the posters have changed my mind.

I need coverage for stocks.
I don't have state income tax.
I am not self-employed.

For Online I need Premier - Currently priced at $54. I can work on it anywhere, from a browser. It annoying but understandably logs me out after inactivity, which happens when questions come up during taxes.

For Desktop I need Deluxe (Federal Only) - Currently priced at $37 - $10 gc. Can share with up to four family and friends that also don't have state income tax. The TT guide says I need Premier but this thread says I only need Deluxe.

I will go with desktop this year. I liked not having anything installed from a company known for immoral activities, but I can sandbox it.
I know you said you are not self-employed but desktop deluxe handles self-employed situations. I am self-employed (1099-NEC income. previously 1099-MISC) and fill out schedule C for my business and have used (desktop) deluxe for years.

If I need to file form schedule D, do I need to purchase TurboTax Premier instead of TurboTax Deluex?

Or, save "net 20" by getting the Block deal with the 20 dollar gift card.

With the download/CD versions, you only need Deluxe. All of my data was imported from my brokerage and TurboTax filled out my Schedule D. The online web version of TurboTax requires you to use Premiere as soon as you have a stock sale transaction. Why it's different, I do not know.

Add both the disc and download version to your cart. Then remove the download version. That is what worked for me when selecting the Jan 3 option.
Thank you - thank you - thank you.

That worked!

Got extra $15 off using the Amazon app!

Also please read the wiki. The questions now are just repeating the same thing again and again.

Can anyone in CA tell me what the difference between the Fed and Fed + State are? I typically buy the combo but pretty sure I have to pay additional for the State filing. Would I be better off going with just the Fed?

I posted a deal yesterday for Cash App Taxes which includes free state and federal efile. That service is completely free and handled my fairly basic tax situation easily last year. Might be something to consider and save a few bucks.

Note re: investment transaction download: You don't need Premier just to automatically download investment data. The Intuit web site comparison of the editions [intuit.com]is clearly written to confuse users and to make it sound like Premier is needed. Here's just one thread [intuit.com]that attempts to point it out. Also, remember that for investments, in general, only sales are taxable events (if you just buy and hold or have balances in a retirement account, those would not be taxable events; you can often deduct investments INTO those accounts, though).

Source: Just another victim of Intuit's marketing and TurboTax for 10+ years. (plus the links above).
