Pricing is currently normal TurboTax + $10. This should drop when the deal goes live on 12/28. Don't bother trying to buy it early.

Yes it's being delayed a year, there's an article abt it at irs.gov. However, it was only ever a reporting change; you've always owed taxes on PayPal/Venmo/etc business income whether it was $20K, $600, or $10. You owe the same taxes you've always owed, it'll just be a lot harder to cheat now (2023 tax year with delay)

I am wondering the same thing. I don't think e-filing the state is free. However, I thought I read somewhere that since there are 5 e-files, if you install the product on multiple machines you are able to download different states, but I can't find that post.
Yes, last year I was able to get 2 different state downloads (with the disc version) by installing on 2 separate computers.

The Fed +State allows five fed e-files, but the state is only for the download of the state software, CA in our case. But it does not cover the cost of the state e-file, it is just for the software. I just print the state and stuff it in an envelope for a few $. Otherwise it will be 20 to 25 to e-file the state.
Thank you!

Wait! Maybe I'm over thinking this. I need to file for myself and my wife. But separately. So two federal files. And two state files. But both in the same state...would this work all for the single price or would I have to pay for the state an additional time? Does this make sense? Thanks for clearing this up for me.
A single install with the state download will work for you.

You will have to pay for two state efiles if you want to efile both returns to your state, that will be the only upcharge. Both federal efiles will be free.

Yea, I'd like to see something definitive on the subject as well

I have never used anything but deluxe, as far as I know premier includes extra help/tools/guidance for certain topics including rental income.

AFAIK Deluxe includes all the forms so I don't think there is actually anything that premier can do that Deluxe cannot do, its just you get more help/guidance with Premier.

Since I dont own rental property I won't speak to something that I dont have first-hand knowledge about. I do know that Deluxe handles Schedules A,B,C and D just fine (including walking you through each of those)

If its your first year doing something new (owning rental property, being self-employed, etc) then maybe the upgraded versions are worth it for "better guidance" but if you are just doing the same thing as the previous year I have trouble believing anything other than Deluxe is really needed.

It would be great if someone who uses Premier or H&B explains why they are using that version instead of Deluxe.

If you do not have to file a State tax return you can buy the FEDERAL ONLY version for $37 - $10 gift card.

$27 net.

Sales tax applies in Texas and likely other states too.

I tried to buy the CD version but they are charging $10 shipping fees. Total is more than $25 so don't know why the shipping fee?

Getting a message when trying to buy.

"The item is not available for purchase due to geographical restrictions"

Anyone else have the same issue?

Deluxe has everything that premier has wrt Schedule D and auto-import (which you definitely want to use)

I've daytraded and had hundreds of trades downloaded including stocks/options/futures, deluxe (desktop) handled it all.
Thank you for confirming. The auto-import is great but does Deluxe also handle the calculation of profit (or loss)?

"Prepare" and "File" are different. This includes 5 federal "preparations" and 1 state "preparations."

E-file costs extra. Most people just print out their preparation forms and mail it in to file.

I share mine with family. They prepare their federal and state. I prepare my federal, turn off my internet, prepare my state, print off both federal and state to mail, and un-install the software. So I'm able to get multiple state preparations that way.

I am planning to file for my fiancé as well as myself. Will I be able to do both using one copy of the Deluxe version (federal and state)? Or will the state be "used" after completing the first set of taxes? It's confusing since the description says that only one state is included.

Since a key can be used 5 times, do all of the 5 filings allow 1 state each? Or is it one state across all 5 filings? I understand I will have to pay $25 x2 to e-file both
In my experience, each of the 5 uses allow each user to select their own state for free. I share this with my family in DC, MD, and CA, and everyone has gotten their states for free.

Seems like also a PIA. Our travel baseball team uses these apps to pay our fees. We have to move away from them so it isn't flagged as income for our coach. Unless I'm mistaken, it's the same if you send money to family/friends.

I suspect that the vast majority of people that buy the premier desktop version would be completely fine with the deluxe desktop version.

Congrats to Intuit for confusing people into spending more money than they need to.
Admittedly, I may be one of those people. I purchased Premier for the past 5 years, including now, just to be sure. Their Desktop Edition Comparison [intuit.com] page states the following for investments: Additional help for investment sales such as stocks, bonds, royalties, mutual funds and employee stock plans.

The purposely vague phrasing "Additional help" likely indicates that most of what you need for investment sales is would be included in the Deluxe version. I would love to know what the exact difference is. That extra $20 is paying dividends for their marketing team.
