For anyone purchasing this, the 8940 was plagued with issues, which for me resulted in the mobo going bad just out of warranty. PSU didn't go bad surprisingly, but it's still non-standard and underpowered, but that didn't cause the mobo to take a crap.
Not trying to be a party pooper, just fair warning on the 8900 lines. The prior gen was a known ticking timebomb at the 1 year mark. I wouldn't be saying this if a quick search showed others experiencing the same problems.
- Mobo is Z690-based
- Mine had USB issues, all ports front+rear would die or peripherals would stutter (yes I did drivers, BIOS, etc.)
- CPU could only reach ~85% of standard 12700 benchmark per Cinebench R23, due to thermals
- Vetroo V5 is a good replacement CPU cooler, or you can try the Dell "premium" (tower style) CPU cooler for ~$80 on eBay. Those come standard on the K-model CPUs for 8950

Ended up being $800.01 for the PC and $99.99 for the warranty.
Also, can you tell me whether this 3060 Ti desktop is good to play demanding games such as MS Flight Simulator at 4K res at 60 fps?

I replaced the CPU cooler with a $25 Vetroo V5 off Amazon and added another 80mm fan which I juryrigged to the front and it's holding up fine. I abuse the hell out of this thing too playing GPU intense games and running it 16+ hours a day since then

I'm not so sure it's related to thermal, as I never ran it anywhere close to dangerous sustained temps. Could simply be a faulty component that's given time just decides to grenade.

For the value it's a nice pre-built offering, especially with the Dell name behind it. It's also smart to replace components with better or more efficient ones, but if you look at the other side of it, if you don't that, it shouldn't lead to failures. If I knew in the beginning I'd have to do that in order to ensure no spontaneous combusting situations, I would have passed regardless of value. Many people buy pre-built to avoid the piecemeal situations.
I ended up repurposing everything I could into a proper build, so it wasn't a total lose. This is good info for others looking to ensure efficiency and possible contribute to longevity.
I'm not sure if a consensus of failures were majority thermal related. If you have data, please share so others can be informed. I know I'm curious.
The strange part is, when people would have failures under warranty, Dell would opt for replacing both Mobo and PSU. I can see batches of crappy PSUs in the wild, that makes sense, but mobo total failures, that's unfortunate. I've heard of people with the 8940 having mobos replaced for them only to fail again.
So if it's in fact thermal related or insufficient cooling or airflow, then people are just sitting on ticking time bombs. Dell will just bank on warranty renewals and just keep replacing mobos without addressing root cause.
Glad yours is performing for you though.
Does the 32g vs 16g and 3060ti vs 3060 worth the $200 difference?
