i suggest avoiding the entire CS900 as a main OS drive. The phison s11 chipset is known to be problematic and seem to have more random failure rate than regular manufacturer failure. I am not advocating avoiding PNY but any SSD with phison s11 to save you possible future hassles : ).

I have a phison S11 ssd that refuses to be detected by USB and will always become unbootable after windows installation. Works fine as a internal storage drive. Another drive that seems to randomly freeze the computer when overloaded.

Can't say for sure! ConfusedThis brand has been a problem with USB sticks for me and only me. I buy WD, Sandisk, Samsung, Crucial, Seagate, Kingston, Corsair products.

I had an ADATA failure for a 1TB SSD and their warranty service was outstanding.Smilie

I have been gun shy with the OP brand, but if the warranty service is painless and free go for it. Not for a boot drive.

Good source! BTW the $69 case at BB is a large mid-tower, heavy, well built with everything you need. This sale won't last long!

I have to agree that the OP drive is not fit as a boot drive if you want a problem free long-lasting unit. WD 770 is priced ok at this time.

One at BB has same price at here!

The processor, RAM, NVMe drive, etc. are great at that price point. Adding a decent GPU is the problem. It has a proprietary PSU with no GPU power connectors, and I don't recall if it has a PCIe x16 slot, so you can maybe run a RX 6400 (possibly at half bandwidth, which is ridiculously overpriced based on performance). Or you could cut and solder wires and figure out how to mount a traditional PSU. But if you are that competent, you could build something better suited to your needs. But this was the PC that my friend ended up getting his parents that don't game, and it will last them 5-10 years. And they are happy so far.

Wow thanks for the information. For me personally, I build build my own computers, but with the intel proliferation of CPUs, AMD completion, and the number of graphics card, this has been pretty confusing to continue to keep track of everything. My machine is old, but that is OK for now as I need it for the drivers to older equipment (e.g. HI8, older large format scanners, etc.) as I am converting my mom's pictures and home movies and my own to digital.

My daughter needs a new machine and she wants to do light gaming (what ever that means) and does not want to spend over $750 or so. She wants to convert from a laptop to a desktop, so either I need to build or buy something for her. I recently purchased a refurb Acer fo a Plex server at a good price and doubled the memory. But even so, with an I3 I do see some lag, but I also wanted something that was energy efficient. So now I need something for my daughter as she is getting the BSOD. She is tapped financially as she just purchased a home. Most of my computer inventory, like cases, power, etc. have all been consumed, except maybe my son has an extra PSU 750 or 800 watts. I have keyboard, cables, etc. so now I need to go shopping again... I guess.

Some great case prices. I may need to look for a full size case for myself and see if she wants full or mid. Better air flow in the full and it takes up the same floor space regardless if full or mid. I currently keep mine off the ground using a wheeled lan board.

Building PCs isn't for everyone. Last build I did, newegg sent me a motherboard with one bent CPU pin that I didn't even think to check. So, it wouldn't start. And it took me 4 hours to figure out the problem. And then it took newegg 2 weeks to deal with the return. But they were out of stock, so I had to find a new motherboard. And then I was out the adhesive thermal paste for mounting the CPU cooler to the bad motherboard when I had to pull the CPU out.

Absolutely an outlier, but if you do encounter something like this, you also have a limited reseller warranty period to make sure every component is solid. And if you need a PC now...

Old man. Getting a refurb on sale and replacing components as needed seems to be the sweet spot. Especially when you can sell the old parts to recover some of the cost. Just make sure you don't fall into the proprietary PSU/motherboard trap.

But yeah. If you have the time, playing with pcpartpicker is the way to go. And it's an amazing learning experience for anyone that doesn't know what makes a computer run.

I would never keep sensitive data on an SSD if possible. I use traditional hard drives for that and keep a backup as well in the cloud. Mechanical hard drives are really cheap and for data you don't access too often, they're great for that. SSDs mainly for OS and apps for the speed and data on hard drive + cloud. I've seen enough failure on SSDs that I wouldn't want to keep my long-term important data stored on them.

This SSD is great for upgrading from a hard drive that holds the OS/apps and you will see a significant increase in speed. I use it to upgrade older laptops/desktops to give them new life. Then use the hard drive you took out of the machine and set it up as a data drive (either in an extra bay in a desktop or you can put it into an external enclosure for either a laptop or desktop use).

I am running this drive in a couple older laptops that had HDDs in them. It works just fine and boots fast. Grabbed another for a backup drive.
