That's not the same thing, and you know it. Klein is a US company that has a long history in producing products for electricians and people who work with electricity. Unlike some generic knock-off brand from China, if somebody gets hurt due to a malfunctioning Klein NCV tester or malfunctioning multimeter, then Klein can be sued. If one of those generic brands from China fails and somebody get seriously hurt... good luck getting any financial recourse.

Made in China by a well-respected brand, and a generic Chinese knock-off brand are not the same thing. It's not to say that there aren't any quality Chinese brand electrical products, but it's much harder for the avg consumer to know which brand is good and which one is not. When this entire Klein kit, with case, is only $28, then why bother with some generic brand like "Zotek?"

just fyi a lot of the cheaper chinese knockoff multimeters (which work fine) have NCV as a feature. I got mine for $40, zotek brand, many others tho.

seems silly to have yet another separate tool.

I used these circuit testers as an electrician. They come in real handy. I never used this particular one, but it looks feature packed and Klein is mostly a trusted and reliable brand. Ordered one for my dad for his birthday to troubleshoot circuits.

nothing wrong with China. depends on the specification. a lot of people won't use/ bother to learn and just want a dumb test to see if there's a bad contact/ faulty gfci unline.

if you're using a non contact voltage sensor as your only or heavily rely on it as your safety net/troubleshoot you're going to have a bad time. I can't remember the last time I used one, and I'm pretty young myself. they could be useful in many conditions, but they're unreliable in some and frankly, not worth the trouble risk.

but a plug in tester? for what it does and how quickly it's great enough.

As an ok DIYer does this come in handy? I feel like I wouldn't work with electrical.

Can anyone describe some use-case scenarios for the avg home owner where it would be worth sticking this in the toolbox?

Even if you don't want to work with the electrical yourself this is still a great way to safely diagnose some issues in case you need to hire someone to actually fix it.

Ive seen some really good videos on how to avoid false positives or false negatives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hagHlbYwRWQ. FWIW, this kit includes the newer NCVT3P model which is considered better (in terms of not running out of battery unaware).
