For those who want a little more info on JIS vs. Phillips, obsolescence, current ISO/DIN standards, etc., check out this link (and maybe another 100 gj threads): https://www.garagejournal.com/for...rs.415887/

FWIW, this set is absolutely compatible with the JIS cross point standard. I routinely work on old and new Japanese vehicles, both two and four wheels, and this set fits with no "phillips" slop. Also for what it's worth, I have a newish Craftsman set and the "phillips" fits the JIS fasteners like a glove as well. This is the new world order.
Short answer: They are JIS.

An answer from Vessel about why they are called Phillips.

There are no reasons for it. We used to describe Phillips, or should we say, Cross Point blade tip as p.1, p.2, p.3, and etc. We sometimes describe them as PH1, PH2, and PH3 because those are the nominal description of crusiform blade tips for cross recessed screws in the US. Sorry for confusion, but please consider all screwdriver produced by our own factory are the so-called JIS Drive specification. You can find out that from the country of origin. It is Japan or Thailand.
As I understand it, the modern Philips standard and the JIS standard became the same thing, making the JIS designation somewhat obsolete. If you're working on older equipment with older drivers, then it's important to match the driver to the screw, but now, a correctly sized decent quality Philips like these should fit all Philips type screws that aren't pozidrive.

Yeah, and I paid about $14 years ago. You can get them even cheaper if you order from Amazon in Japan (as part of a larger order), but, obviously, shipping from Japan is expensive. So, you need to make a big order to make it worth it.

Unless you work on Japanese motor bikes you don't need JIS. Also these are not Japanese Industry Standard, just look at the pics, they're very much standard Phillips, JIS are very pointy

Jis obsoleted their standard and no longer has a cross drive standard.

I'm not familiar with this, can I ask what is special about it? I love tools and good bits are worth the money, so not being critical just thinking about what would make me jump on this. Any input appreciated.

I thought it's the opposite? JIS are stubbier than phillips. These are JIS bits
