An awesome watch and a good price if ur active. This is last years model and similar to the new 7x in every way except touch screen.
Tried 6x for 2 months and just switched to 7x. No, it is much more advanced, sorry. Already noticed more accurate heart rate estimations, better pool length tracking, lots of smaller nice changes in ui. Wish it was on sale this year.

I read that way too fast...thought to myself that a "poo length tracker" is odd but a good gauge on general gut biome I suppose

I have had the fenix 3, 5 and 6 Sapphire, absolutely love the watch best battery. Robust features but I have switched over to the dark side, an ultra watch. I wanted to incorporate more within the apple ecosystem Hardest part is leaving behind all my years of data from Garmin connect, wish I could synch my ultra watch to connect to keep the data in synch. If you are in need of a great watch and do not need or want ouch screen the fenix sapphire is a tank and absolutely amazing. Biggest drawback in my eyes after using the ultra watch is the screen which does the job, but now used to the ultra

If you want both bright screen and Garmin, get Epix 2nd Gen. It had both. Screen is amazing and battery life is also good. Not great like Fenix. But great compromise for better screen
They're not in the same class to be perfectly honest. The Garmin is a serious fitness watch with and always-on transflective display that is very easy to read in daylight. The Garmin software and activity tracking ecosystem is second to none. The data collection for monitoring your improvement on Garmin Connect is top notch. I could seriously go on.
However if you're not looking for a super serious athletic watch there are certainly cheaper and better suited options like the Amazfit, Apple Watch, Samsung Gear which are all excellent "casual"' fitness watches.
Older Garmin top watches like the 935 Forerunner can be had for ~$200. It can be a good way to try it out for cheap.

I thought Fenix 7 has OHR 4.0 vs. Fenix 6 OHR 3.0 - 4.0 said to have somewhat better accuracy.
Correct - it has the 4th gen optical sensor vs the 6 with the 3rd gen. Supposed to be more accurate as you mentioned. I still can't really use the wrist base HR during exercise though - the HR strap wins hands down everytime, especially for weight sessions where there is any kind of wrist flexion.
roguedog is also right - multiband GPS, but for most people they can't tell the difference.
This is a great deal - I bought one in October for ~$500ish. Ended up trying a few diff watches including the Epix Gen 2, Venu 2+, and the 6X Pro which was $340. (The $340 deal is no longer available)
Also agree with efosao - it's geared towards a diff market than the T-Rex
