The problem I've had with refurbs of high end TV's is that they "work" but don't necessarily "perform". Sony does not refurbish their TV's despite what beachdig and the other sleazepots say. I'm not aware of any major that does. The amount of time, expertise, and tech required for these factories to truly get the TV back to original specs is not as profitable as simply getting them to appear acceptable. I would love to see rtings test a dozen supposedly identical high end refurbs. I know the variance would shock most people.
but as you say, to each their own though...lol

-the native contrast is DOUBLE the x95j
-the gradient is 9.2, the x95 is 8.8, (the deal beaker for me)
-the black uniformity is bad on the x95j
-pre calibrations better for those who don't calibrate
-significantly better sharpness when observing the tiniest 'rtings' lettering at the bottom the '4K' boat
images between the two
-sharper pixels in general
-better pixel response time, no ghosting/black smearing
to each their own though...
edit the 75" x90j is $799
and the 85" is 1199

Navigating the icons can be a little laggy sometimes, but picture quality is stunning.

refurb x900f 65"
refurb samsung q70r
refurb x90j
denon x4400h
denon s760h
bunch of tablets
oled phone
used gpus
computer parts
tons of used speakers
ect...
you're basically spewing vagueries, it's mildly insulting to think that other consumers out there like myself can't tell a good buy when it's in our hands giving a month long inspection... I'm the most obsessive perfectionist person I know, and I really do know for a fact I'm typing this on a MINT x90j (the blooming and color uniformity looks to be less than any other reviewed on the internet, and if I liked the x95j more, I'd be on that (the blooming is really wack and I'm all about the gradient, could care less about brightness past 13, but I digress)
for the most part, refurbs are returns. period.
and it never hurts to give one a shot

Better vagueries than nonsense. I've looked at the rtings comparison you posted, thank you for that BTW. A close examination leads me to be mystified how the X90J could somehow be a "better" TV than the X95J. Maybe it's a better value for many or even most, but a rational sentient being could not come to the conclusion that it is better overall. Yes there are a few things the X90J scores better at, but 97% of the stats point the other way. Maybe color gradient isn't a "deal beaker" for everyone. Consider posting your deal. I'm sure many could benefit.

There should be almost zero degradation on a name brand LCD that has been used daily for even a year
The failure rate is very low
I have never bought a refurb...but I have bought many open box/demo TVs over the years
I would buy some type of warranty past the 90 days but I would have no issue buying an LCD refurb

Additionally if you keep the item 2-3 years and resell you will get the same amount as the person who spent a lot more on a brand new unit

You must've bought right after it was first introduced.
