Perfect timing! I wanted at least 2,000 watts to be able to power my furnace or a portable AC during extended power outages. Is there any reason why I should get an inverter one?

Inverter generators will adjust their throttle based on the load they have, so they are better at fuel efficiency over time. However, if you're going to plug a portable AC into it, you're probably not going to see the benefits of it.

Based on what you said, your AC will already require the generator to be over 50% at running (vs start).

This is dirty power. This is not a good idea for sensitive electronics such as furnace. Inverter generator is what you need.

hvac is not like an AVR or computer, but if you are worried you can add an inline surge suppressor.

so i got the champion the other day thats about the same size as this one.

thinking about getting this one too.

would it be better to get a couple of smaller generators to run various appliances like fridge, microwave, small space heater(s) or portable AC and some lights, etc.

FYI, I bought this as well, and will install it by my furnace on/off switch:
https://ezgeneratorswitch.com/pro...or-switch/

We had a power outage during the cold freeze last week, and that was brutal without electric (gas furnace can't run without electric). Never again!

I just bought the champion weekender from
Cabelas. I was wondering which one is better? I may return and get this one.

thats the same one i got about a week ago. champion is a well known brand.

this westinghouse has just slightly more power. westinghouse is well known for their electric motors.

all-in-all the differences between the two is minimal and a wash.

i havent set up the champion yet, but plan on keeping it and most likely getting this one too.

we live in a critical section where this is a pump station about 2 blocks over that needs to stay online so the power company will do everything in their power to keep this section online less there be a verrry nasssty mess running everywhere!!! laugh out loud

so these generators are basically insurance.
