Because it's one of the best values in computing, providing that you aren't going to need a lot of ram.
This still has the fast 256GB SSD that got its speed cut in half with the m2 macs.
So paging a bit is just fine. And it takes external storage. Really persnickety about logitech keyboards and mice with the usb dongle. Apparently macs cut off power to the usb port during sleep, and have trouble waking up as a result. The apple response? Turn off sleep. Wow.
Other problem I came up with was the persistent top menu bar that you either have to leave up (the apple recommendation again, and 'wow' again.) or have it pop up on you while you're using Chrome, which has no top menu bar on the other OS's. So instead of clicking on a tab, you get whatever random menu item that pops up where your mouse was.
For those two reasons, I returned it. Having said that, this configuration was extremely capable as a streaming media device and basic browsing item, with ipad apps loadable which was really nice.
But it has to work with the peripherals that I already own, and being told a few times to "get used to it" or "Well, don't do that" by an s-tier computer maker over longstanding complaints and easy to fix problems didn't work for me.
That having been said, I still think that if you can live with the vagaries of mac os, it's a lot of hardware for the $, providing you steer clear of the hellaciously overpriced upgrades.
At a minimum, its far more powerful and capable than the microsoft arm development device that's about the same price. Which tells me that microsoft doesn't understand the entire part about people developing for their platforms.

I just upgraded my rig and 64GB DDR4 3200 RAM cost $160. Yes, $160.
Apple charges $200 for 8GB. It charges 20% more for 800% less RAM. I get that Apple has a premium price tag and that MacOS is amazing, but come on Apple. This is sheer highway robbery. At least make it reasonably expensive. 8GB for $50 or even $100.
