I bought one last year, same place and price. First apple product that I bought since the original imac about 20 years ago.

Because it's one of the best values in computing, providing that you aren't going to need a lot of ram.

This still has the fast 256GB SSD that got its speed cut in half with the m2 macs.

So paging a bit is just fine. And it takes external storage. Really persnickety about logitech keyboards and mice with the usb dongle. Apparently macs cut off power to the usb port during sleep, and have trouble waking up as a result. The apple response? Turn off sleep. Wow.

Other problem I came up with was the persistent top menu bar that you either have to leave up (the apple recommendation again, and 'wow' again.) or have it pop up on you while you're using Chrome, which has no top menu bar on the other OS's. So instead of clicking on a tab, you get whatever random menu item that pops up where your mouse was.

For those two reasons, I returned it. Having said that, this configuration was extremely capable as a streaming media device and basic browsing item, with ipad apps loadable which was really nice.

But it has to work with the peripherals that I already own, and being told a few times to "get used to it" or "Well, don't do that" by an s-tier computer maker over longstanding complaints and easy to fix problems didn't work for me.

That having been said, I still think that if you can live with the vagaries of mac os, it's a lot of hardware for the $, providing you steer clear of the hellaciously overpriced upgrades.

At a minimum, its far more powerful and capable than the microsoft arm development device that's about the same price. Which tells me that microsoft doesn't understand the entire part about people developing for their platforms.

$25?

I just upgraded my rig and 64GB DDR4 3200 RAM cost $160. Yes, $160.
Apple charges $200 for 8GB. It charges 20% more for 800% less RAM. I get that Apple has a premium price tag and that MacOS is amazing, but come on Apple. This is sheer highway robbery. At least make it reasonably expensive. 8GB for $50 or even $100.

Great little box to break into the apple ecosystem. It's more than powerful enough for most people and all you need to do is add an external drive when you run out of the internal storage.

I'll preface this by saying I love ios and am willing to sacrifice better hardware for the operating system. I am also currently in the market for a new mac mini. While this is as low as it's been for quite a while, there is a rumored refresh coming early this year. I would love to pick one up right now, but given that it was released in 2020 and some of the issues that have plagued this model from the onset, I'd wait, unless I absolutely need one right now.

Had mine for over a year and it's wonderful. Quiet, efficient, and powerful. Keep in mind that macOS uses memory differently.

How is it? You can't use photoshop, premiere, or any real useful app on here.. what is this for? Watching tick tock?
First of all, you can. Second of all, if you're into those production apps you're likely not looking at this spec anyway.

Personally I have a 16gb model with 1 TB as my home setup.

Yeah same. Great machine. I've had mine for at least 18 months.

They were comparing apples to oranges.
