If you're serious about wanting to get into rowing go with a concept 2 (currently $990). They're basically the gold standard of rowers (unless you are looking at rowers way more expensive). It will last forever, has the largest selection of third party apps that can sync with it (I'm a fan of Asensei), and will hold its resale value if rowing ends up not being your thing.
I bought this last time, I had a Echelon sport bike which I loved and still use. I see all the comments about Concept 2 etc but for me seeing if I actually liked rowing for $300 and already using the app was a no brainer.

The general build quality seems good (I have nothing to compare it to, I don't row) however the foot straps seem cheap and this model doesn't have the adjustment on the handle bars like the other Echelon models. I thought that would be an issue stopping and turning the knob for resistance but it wasn't really. You don't change that much during the classes like with the bike.

From a newb who just wants to dip their toe in the water (get it?) I am happy with the purchase and would buy again. Right now I really like rowing, but if I like it still in a year then I can look into more serious options.
You are assuming you can sell the concept 2 for a high price. I see some that have been listed for $750 and have remained at that price for months. Just because you think the value is high doesn't mean the 2nd hand buyers will. In 5 years if they are still using it they would have gotten a lot of value from $300. In 5 years i highly doubt the concept2 Would be worth $750.

Second this. Bought my Concept2 during the pandemic and never looked back. Great investment.

I'd like to add on to the previous commenter as well... Yes, this is only $300 however, you will not be able to get parts for it if any parts break after a few years most likely so it is a short term purchase. and if you sell it in 5 years you may get $100 for it... If you buy a Concept 2, it stores vertically, is super solid, and you can sell it in a day for $750 all day long because everyone wants a used Concept 2, they are that good. AND you can get parts for these forever. The company will sell or send you any parts needed and they have for all their old machines as well and they have been making them for over 30 years. I've tried these cheap ones, and they are not confidence inspiring to use. That's why gyms buy the Concept 2. However I will say that rowing is an EXCELLENT full body workout and however you choose, just do it on whatever machine you have because your health will benefit! Smilie
I have the Concept 2 and the SkiErg and both are amazing complimentary movements.
My gym replaced their old concept2 with hydrows.

I ordered this exercise bike for $175, thinking of cancelling and ordering this exercise rower.

If I can only have one, which one provides better exercise - exercise bike or this exercise rower?

I'm in the same boat. I am looking to get a bike, rower, stepper around this price range and this deal and the bike seem great. I think I'd prefer the bike especially since I do have knee issues - this breakdown was useful. https://365moves.com/rowing-machi...rcise-bike
I guess the only thing giving me pause is the brand of the bike being so unfamiliar (and generic) - reviews seem good tho ...

Look for used exercise equipment in the summer for cheap when people give up on their New Year's resolution.

I bought this for the same price on Cyber Monday. The TL;DR is that it's well built but the resistance doesn't go very high and the app is frustrating and limited. 2/5 stars. Here is the full review I left:

"Don't be mislead by the incentivized reviews

Bought this on cyber monday for $297 thinking it was a solid deal. It was delivered quickly and was pretty easy to put together. The build quality is good short of the phone holder which feels like it will wear out rather quickly with heavy use. The machine rows nicely and is somewhat easy to stow and move around. The good ends there. First you realize you cant use the app without making an account which you can't do from the app. Then you try to make an account but it prompts you to choose a membership. Stop there and just sign into the app. Dont be fooled into thinking you have to select the free membership to continue. The app is pretty basic and useless without a membership. You have to select the free workout from the extras menu to start. The bluetooth syncs up rather easily but the light flashes the brightest most obnoxious blue so I ended up putting tape over it. Once connected it will show your stats, but they are super small and at the bottom of the screen. The majority of the screen is taken up by ads for the membership classes. It was too small for my phone so I had to grab an old iPad to really see the stats. Sometimes the stats dont work or dont display correctly. In that case you have to disconnect the bluetooth and try again. I have no idea how accurate the data is but I find it hard to believe it's correct with how buggy it is. The resistance doesn't go all that high and they imprinted their name on the top of the metal track so the wheel feels like its rolling over dirt or something a lot of the time. I'm 6'4" and I tend to bump the back of the track which is annoying and takes me out of the groove. I wouldnt buy it again. Just hoping it will keep me active during the cold months in Ohio. I'd return it but it will be impossible to put back in the box and is too large for my car. Gonna suck it up in the meantime and chalk it off as a lesson learned."

Bought this on the Black Friday deal for the same price. It's been really solid so far. The only minor complaint is that the middle brace leg doesn't actually touch the floor, but it hasn't been an issue. Haven't used it with the app yet. I just do manual rowing watching Youtube videos. Wasn't too bad to put together, either. It seems well worth it so far.

Bought this last post and thought it came with a screen based on the screenshots 😅 It does not. So far pretty happy with it. First time having a rower so nothing to compare it against.

Just like everyone mentioned here. Without the app subscription you don't even get to see the regular stats. Bought it and returned it. Was a hassle. Bought one from marketplace concept 2 for less than 500 and can't be more happier. Simple, easy and sturdy. One big thing to consider if you r buying this is the resistance level. It's God awful light.

Personally, if you have an fitness wearable and rowing app that can read it, you don't need the official app. I like using Apple Watch's rowing tracker options usually, and there's several good rowing services for any rowing machine.

Had one. It was so loud that I dreaded every session. Maybe it would last forever, but I kept hopng it would die until I sold it.

Rowing is a much better workout that uses far more muscles than cycling.

100%! I was lucky to snag a lightly used Model D during the pandemic for $300 from a neighbor on Nextdoor (I just happened to be browsing a minute after they posted it so i was the first to message them) who didn't realize they could have gotten a lot more. I use it every day.

I got this at the previous 297 price. It was easy to assemble, for the price it's a steal. I'm the type who buys equipment with a good chance I won't use it as much, so while a 1000-1500$ rower will be far better than this, I would have regret spending that. With this price, for a light full body workout occasionally, I dont have any regret.

With it being magnetic resistance, you won't have remotely the same resistance as an air, however this will be far quieter, it's the trade off.
