Note that this flashlight takes an AA battery (250 lumens) or a lithium 14500 (600 lumens). Battery not included! A good lithium 14500 probably runs you $5-$10/each but it's difficult to buy just one. Also, the AA/14500 battery size isn't that big so this is more useful as a short task light (1-2 hours).

The Sofirn SP40 as OP mentioned can run 6+ hours on a more substantial 18650 rechargeable lithium battery (built-in charger). Currently on sale for $30 and comes with a good 18650 battery. IMO this is a better deal and better flashlight.

Wish more flashlight manufacturers made the operation modes on/off with press of switch. Can't stand cycling each time even if it's just 2 light levels before off.

Really good review on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlig...nicron_n7/

This thing is never $29.99. CCC shows the seller just manipulates the price so they can say it's on sale. Normally $16.

An $11 flashlight that does not include a battery or a charger like the one its compared to. If you do not already have those things its pretty much going to be the same price. Sure you could use AA batteries, but then the two really arent even comparable with the Nicron only putting out 250 lumens.
So you're saying a battery and charger are make the 25 dollar difference? Only 250 lumens? What exactly are you using these flashlights for search and rescue? I'm using it to find stuff in my car at night, which it's fine for, I wouldn't use it on a police raid but apparently you do eh?

I have had one for a couple years and it isn't bad. The one problem I have with pocket carry is the push button switch turns on in my pocket no matter how I rotate the pocket clip. I finally removed the pocket clip but it still will come on at times and when you need it it's dead.

Why is a $31 HEADLAMP being compared to a $11 FLASHLIGHT? Both are good deals for what they are.

This is a nice little light. I bought two of them a little over a year and a half ago for $10ea. You can get 14500 cells pretty cheap. I'm happy with the EBL ones I got off Newegg, they work just fine and are currently $12 for 4 w/ free shipping. If you want to wait a little longer you can get 4 cells with a charger for about $8 on AliExpress. Are they "premium" batteries? No, but they'll work fine for a $10 flashlight. Is it better than any of the Sofirn or Lumintop lights I have? Probably not, but it's a unique little light that is well built, has it's uses, and I like it.

Many retailers do the same thing. They have a certain "retail" price, so they can claim it's on sale, or "50% off" in bold letters, to get the attention of those who normally wouldn't look twice.

Not to trash this deal or may be I need to learn something new BUT Costco used to have Pack of 3 rechargeable Feit Electric for less than $15 and just the batteries worth almost $15.00. Very .
Other guys a work have this battery always ask where I brought the Feit Electric, etc. We have to use these flash lights at work many times each days to do inspection broke down equipment

For a reputable set of batteries (usually sold in multiples) and a charger you can easily spend $25-$30, so to answer the question you could have searched for yourself instead of trolling here, yes that is exactly what I am saying. Of course you can always buy some cheap solution on eBay direct from China that will be rated much less than what it's labeled as and might catch on fire. You are posting in a thread titled 600 lumen tactical flashlight where people are typically passionate about high quality torches. If you want a cheap low powered flashlight go to the dollar store. If you have not yet used a high powered flashlight to find stuff in your car at night, you should definitely give it a try, the difference is night and day. But don't waste your time on this one if you really want to be impressed.

The Amazon page suggests unscrewing the bottom cap a couple of turns to prevent it from accidentally turning on:
"Energy saving settings - if not in use, we recommend simple thing to "lock the unit out" just by unscrewing the tail cap a few turns."

Is there a straight version of the rechargeable one. I have the one OP posted, it's actually a very solid flashlight, and has magnetic cap, and it's compact and bright enough, rotating head is very handy, but it's not super bright with AA batteries. It's definitely worth $10-$15 no more.
The Sofirn SC31 would probably be close to what you are looking for:

Yeah, that's what I have learned to do.
