Be aware that Iceland is stupid expensive. I still want to go eventually, but expect to pay a decent amount on food/drink, lodging, and activities.

I'm set to go in March (was supposed to be last Oct but a medical issue messed that up) and already booked all the flights, hotels, tours, etc (twice at this point). None of the pricing was more than anything you'd find in somewhere like Rome, London, or Paris. My understanding though the restaurant food / beer / wine is 3 to 4 times what it costs in the United States. However if you make a habit of eating take-out prepared food from somewhere like a grocery store for some of your meals, it is really supposed to offset the difference when dining out. My wife and I rarely dine out 3 times per day so eating a sandwich in the morning or a 'hotplate' from a deli counter for lunch won't be roughing it too much.

Hey. I'm going to the Iceland on March as well. I only have the plane booked though. Any tips on hotels/tours? I was going to rent a car and drive to places and find some hostels to sleep the same day (maybe Airbnb). I'm going with my friend so we can eat cheap stuff and sleep anywhere.

Having never been there I can only comment so much but I tend to prefer guided tours as I hate planning and my wife over plans (to the point nothing gets done). From my research (and already booked a tour) these guys appear pretty legit icelandadventuretours.is.

Hope you enjoy yourself!

Thanks for the website. I had a similar website in mind but yours look cheaper for the same activity. I'll definitely check them out. Have a good trip!
