The cost of electricity to operate this where I live would be $1.41 per hour to run.

Running the same BTU output (20,400) on natural gas would cost $0.21 per hour.

Something to factor in if this is a long term play on your part. 7x more operating cost over nat gas.

Hard to find specs on this. If it is 6000W it would require 240V but the manual doesn't even talk about 120 or 240V, only a 10 gauge wire.

Edit: the website says it's a 240V model, so you'd need to run a 240V circuit for this.

From the manufacturer's website:

"The Heat Storm 6000-watt Wifi Unit is a great solution for any garage, workshop, basement or area where there is not much floor space. It mounts on the wall or on the ceiling and At 6000 Watts this heater will easily heat up your garage, basement or shop up to 1000 square feet. It does need to be hardwired in so you may need to hire a certified electrician to get it installed. "

Probably the same reason baseboard heaters can't use plugs? Of course you can do whatever you want at your own risk and I'm sure lots of people do.

I already have a 30A/240v clothes dryer outlet not far from where I want to hang this.
I have it in my cart but it won't go through payment.
This isn't a plug-in model. You're supposed to run 10 gauge romex to the breaker. If you DIY a plug onto it it will probably not be up to code.

....and what code exactly would it violate?

Dryers don't come with cords either.

Stay away from this crap. Even the install manual doesn't list amperage or what breaker is needed to support this. All it says it's to hard wire directly and not use a plug or extension. Home depot reviews say anywhere from 25-40A so you definitely do not want to install this on a 30A dryer outlet

Images show something like thhn cable connection to the heater, and a grommet for a round cable as opposed to Romex clamp. I don't believe flexible cable can be hard wired without a disconnect at all.

That's probably why the instructions say "you may need to hire a certified electrician to get it installed."

Anyways, 10 gauge wire is sufficient for 30 amps at 240v. 30 amps * 240v = 7200 watts. This heater is rated for 6000 watts. Unless there is a reason for it to draw more than 6000 watts, 10 gauge wire should be sufficient.

Technically, it would work on the dryer outlet that is rated for 30A at 240 volts. It may not be to code but it will work. Just make sure you don't run both at the same time or your breaker will trip.

Yes from my experience anything past 2000 watts needs 240V since 120V circuit max is usually 20 amps

Manual doesn't provide any details, no labels on photos or videos. Red flags by the bunch.
And I am not a regulation purist.... but if anyone wants this for anything other than personal garage, beware: your dealings with insurance may be smoother if you use certified high power devices....
