I think there is some confusion here. This is a seperate program that does not require the $50 ink / toner spend every 180 days. So you do not have to do that part, but if you are asking will you get $10 to recycle a print cartridge, I doubt it. You would need to bring in the printer for $10.

The "rewards" generated from this program are "instore" use only. Also when I drop off my recycling there might be a same day only $10 off $30 coupon generated at the counter with the typical exclusions, but you might snag a deal on some clearance item or a case of paper.. IDK.. Just look at your receipt for any offers before you leave.

As far as I know $2 Ink / Toner recycling is unchanged. You now need to spend $50 on Ink / Toner every 180 days. You get $2 ea. Regular members can recycle 10 per month. Plus members 20 per month. The rewards are spendable in store and online.

they bring your important paper bag to the back of the store. with the promise that its for their professional shredder to take care of them later. yeah. like you would trust them to leave that bag to the "professionals" in the back. they dont have any instore shredders for that purpose.

so I just recycled 10 inks last night, if I recycle one more today, will it be counted as this $10 rewards or declined due to monthly limit?

It's actually a locked trash container that's inaccessible and tamper evident that is a 3rd party company that comes and picks it up and does the shredding in their facilities. Not sure if that's 100% accurate today, but when I worked at Staples 9 years ago that was the case.

Is there a limit to how many items you can recycle in a single trip? I'm not concerned about the reward, but say I have 5 busted HDDs, a bag of ink cartridges, a desktop, and a printer to recycle, is it typical for stores to refuse more than one large item at a time? Nearest store is 30 miles away, but they appear to be one of the few places around that takes e-waste.
They will take all your recycling, but you will only get rewards for 1 tech item and either 10 or 20 ink recycling

Edit: Staples has a limit of 7 items per customer per day. Certain stores may, at the general manager's discretion, accept a larger number of items on a case-by-case basis.

I've recycled one ink or toner cartridge for each of the past three months and each time I got a $5 coupon.
I guess the cashier is typing in the sku for tech recycling instead of ink recycling if you are recycling just 1 ink/toner cartridge. lucky for you.

The tech recycling says in-store, unlike the ink recycling which has the option for shipping.

Ok, the obvious question. Whether you bring in 1 or 50 items, you still get only $10 per account, in rewards?

Or can you get multiple rewards for multiple items, up to what limit?
limit 1 reward for tech recycling

is it secure to recycle hard drives thru Staples?
I have ancient desktop and laptops inherited from in-laws which barely boots and no one knows the password.
I was advised to take a hammer to the drives and then throw them in garbage; but would prefer to recycle if it will be secure.

Should. "Adapters , cables" is on the list and I've done it before with both a USB cable and power cable.

Never done this b4. Do I just bring in old printer cartridges to recycle and gets $10 in reward?
Yes, but to be clear, they give $2 rewards for each old inkjet cartridge,. Up to $20 for regular members or $40 for plus/premiere members. Those rewards are also usable online. You also have to buy $50 worth of ink/ toner to be eligible for cartridge recycling for 180 days.
These $10 rewards are for shredding or electronics recycling, not cartridges, and only usable in-store.
EDIT: Someone else responded that DO accept cartridges for the $10 tech recycling, but I imagine that would depend on the store as they're not specifically on the list.

They recycle for free, but do have a limit (per visit? per month?). They GIVE you $10 in rewards towards a future purchase for ONE item per month. It was just $5 previously, so might go back to that after this month.

What if there's 1,000 Bitcoins on those HDD's!!!! Look up Hiren's boot disk, it will let you wipe the password from Windows XP and 7 so you can recover your files. (If you find Bitcoins in there can I please have one Big Grin ) Also look up DBAN to securely wipe your HDD's before turning them in.

BTW, anyone interested in ink cartridge recycling, if you've not recently bought the required $50 worth of ink / toner, Staples currently has a 50% back in rewards coupon code for online purchases of high yield and multipack ink / toners through 1-7.
Coupon code 79488
