The roku version does not seem to support playback from the SD card in the App:

That is probably a deal breaker unless you want to pay for their yearly subscription.

Yes, from what I've read though they aren't compatible with each other's app.

Apparently their respective apps require whitelisted MACs, so you can't cross-flash them.

So wyze cameras rebranded as Roku 🤔
Roku software is much better and doesn't have encrpytion issues that Wyze has. Also Roku ones work with your Roku TV/stick.

Can you site your source on this one? Usually a white labeled product isn't rewritten from the ground up for another company to use with all the bugs worked out and military grade encryption added. It can happen, but rarely does. I'm not sure this would qualify as a case to do that.

Why would anyone buy this or the wyze branded cams when there's something like the eufy indoor/outdoor cams? No sub required. Local storage with playback support via the SD card. Video quality is extremely good compared to other cams in the same market.

I've been very impressed with my eufy indoor cam that's been mounted outdoors under a soffit with zero issues. I would buy more eufy cams but I'm already heavily invested in the Ring ecosystem and still have the grandfathered ring protect subscription.

What is your issue with Wyze
I love wyze but I have never used a Roku
Fire stick all the way,
Can you even sideload Android apps on a Roku? Does it run Android or some other OS ?
I never had a need for it because I use Android TV boxes and fire sticks.
Seems like a boomer box for non tech savvy people who don't know how to sideload and lie to pay for crappy content
So, people with integrity you mean.

These are cheaper than the average Eufy cam, and work easily with your Roku TV. That''s a big plus over setting up cameras, even with your smartphone.

Also, Eufy just got caught with poor security practices, and isn't being up-front [theverge.com] about them.

I have 9 Rokus running in my house so clearly it's not bad. Also I have Ring, Blink and Wyze cameras and I have to say the Wyze cameras are pretty great so far. Quality is great, I can record 24/7 to an SD card, the app is very good and they have an app for MacBooks too. Based on the slight differences between the cameras though I would probably stick with the Wyze versions over the Roku ones for myself though.

Might not be a total rebrand. I believe they share the same hardware manufacturer but each uses different firmware and may have different components inside.
They are designed and built by Wyze, but I'm not sure how far the modifications go. They are intentionally incompatible with Wyze products.

Roku is bad? On what basis? Roku has been one of the key drivers of the entire streaming movement, and it has about a 33% market share. Intermittent profitability aside, Roku has fast, reliable devices with an intuitive interface. Their Ultra box prob offers the best value for the price-point. Just give me a backlit remote like the Shield and don't think I would have any complaints.
I agree w/ you. I find the streambars to be a great product for the price they come at.

The Wyze 3 cameras are good with good night vision. But still very difficult to clearly make out the faces of people / number plates recorded on them. May require a 2k or 4K camera.

Any recommendations on such cameras which are reasonably priced?
The Wyze v3 recently got a 2k "Pro" version, but I'm told that reading license plates in the dark is near impossible with consumer cams due to their reflective coatings.

No, Wyze used Roku Camera's design aspect...
Actually Roku had plan to jump into camera market since first launch of Roku TV 🤣.
Wyze just jumped ahead of them...

Chinese manufacturers give not damn about IPs. You ask them to make counterfeit of anything, they would happily do it...
I hate world's reliant on China 😔

Does that mean these are also outdoor weather-resistant cameras as well?
