This is an impact driver for screws... Not an impact wrench
Dafaq?

Well...they have 4x-5x the torque of a drill driver, they natively hold 1/4" hex bits for driving basically any standard fastener for heavier or repetitive construction (like square or T25 for example), and they do so at a lower weight and much lower cost than a 1/2" impact.
This doesn't seem like a good deal since it is the base Ryobi model for an impact driver and shouldn't cost more than $40 not on sale for tool only. If it was brushless or included a battery and charger then one could argue it's a decent deal. Back in October/November HD cleared out a Ryobi impact kit similar to this with a bag, charger, and 2x 1.5ah batteries for $25. That was a SD (and was posted to SD b/c that's how I learned about it).

I fail to find a useful purpose for a 1/4" impact driver. 3/8" or 1/2" yes, but 1/4" I just can't understand.

I think this is pretty much the regular retail price. I saw the title and nearly bit because I thought it was brushless. I've got this model and it's well worth the 40 bucks but not a deal.

Agreed with the above; $40 is about the normal price for this tool alone. Fine if you need it urgently, but not a SD.

By comparison, $72 will get you this same impact driver in the 18V ONE+ 4-Tool Combo Kit, which includes:
— 1/2 in. Drill/Driver,
— 1/4 in. Impact Driver,
— 5-1/2 in. Circular Saw,
— LED Flashlight,
— 1 x 1.5 Ah Lithium-ion Battery,
— 1 x 4.0 Ah Lithium-ion Battery,
— 18V Charger
— Carry Bag.

That's a lot more for the extra $32.

(SD FAQ: "Hack" = buy item + most expensive free gift at Home Depot. Receipt will itemize each at prorated price. Then return gift item.)

I'm looking for a 1/2" impact wrench, can someone recommend a good Ryobi model?

don't get me wrong, if i was to embark on the type of project that would be worth getting the impact i would buy one (or if the price was so low or came with a set). but the reality that for most people in a domestic setting a drill is all the need. i would even recommend a compact screwdriver over the impact if you can only afford one.
