This is an impact driver for screws... Not an impact wrench

Dafaq?

Well...they have 4x-5x the torque of a drill driver, they natively hold 1/4" hex bits for driving basically any standard fastener for heavier or repetitive construction (like square or T25 for example), and they do so at a lower weight and much lower cost than a 1/2" impact.

This doesn't seem like a good deal since it is the base Ryobi model for an impact driver and shouldn't cost more than $40 not on sale for tool only. If it was brushless or included a battery and charger then one could argue it's a decent deal. Back in October/November HD cleared out a Ryobi impact kit similar to this with a bag, charger, and 2x 1.5ah batteries for $25. That was a SD (and was posted to SD b/c that's how I learned about it).

I'm looking for a 1/2" impact wrench, can someone recommend a good Ryobi model?
Bought the $149 deal and added the 600lb. 1/2in torque wrench as my free tool. Giving the 1/4in. W/1.5ah battery and charger to a friend

This one is 10 dollars cheaper if anyone is interested. Not sure if there is much difference between the P235A and the P235AB?

i fail to find a useful purpose for an impact drive. just used my drill to get the job done. this will be true for 90% if folks.
I'm a very beginner woodworker, and I use my driver constantly. Of course, woodworking is far different than Ikea assembly or putting up a picture frame or any number of reasons a drill/driver is fine.

I agree with you that a drive is nice to have, but once you're used to it, it's really hard to go back to a drill for driving screws when a driver does it so much better.

Build a fence or a deck with a drill and a impact driver and then tell me that an impact is not worth it.

don't get me wrong, if i was to embark on the type of project that would be worth getting the impact i would buy one (or if the price was so low or came with a set). but the reality that for most people in a domestic setting a drill is all the need. i would even recommend a compact screwdriver over the impact if you can only afford one.

You are right that the drill is more important to have if you can only afford one. The impact drivers function is to ease the tension and stress to the wrist. This makes it easier to screw and unscrew things. In addition if you buy an socket adapter it can also allow for additional function with the impact drivers torque to work similarly to an impact wrench to some degree. There are many applications for an impact driver. Overall my opinion is if you can afford an impact driver it would make your life easier (or at least your wrist).

fyi, if you just need to screw couple screws and your drill can't get the job done, just use soap (i have an old bar in my toolbox just for that)

once you setup to into woodworking, you are no longer a typical homeowner (you are building furniture after all). same goes for folks working on cars vs. folks changing air filter.

As a woodworker, you should be relying more on the screwdriving finesse offered by your clutched drill. Use the impact driver for construction.

That is $120 more
It's $159 for the base (what the person mentioned - like 4 tools + extras) + a free tool. If you return the free tool, you will end up with a final cost of $72 for those items from the base. This is a well known "hack" with HD.

The $159 total gets you the base + a free item. Return whichever and keep the item you want, which will cost significantly less than list price.

Hope that helps!

Sounds interesting. Although I kind of find it funny that the youtube demonstration on using soap also used an impact driver Wink

But I got what you mean. Many tools today are not needed or necessary to complete a job. But the whole concept of creating tools in itself is to use the right tools to get the job done easier, faster and safer. Although easier and faster may not be for everyone since other factors like cost, effectiveness and efficiencys play a major role on who needs or want these tools.

Does everyone need an impact driver? NO. But here on slickdeal we will buy an extra just because it was a deal!

I have one of these, it worked for installing a sheet metal roof on a shed. It can also use drill bits but you have to buy hex shank bits.
