I feel like it gets asked in every hard drive deal. It just needs to be a gen 4 drive. I noticed no difference in speed between my cheap Chinese gen 4 drive and my brothers Samsung gen 4 drive. Both PS5's work fine, same speed for the most part. My cheap one will probably die out quicker but it was half the price. It's just games, I'll re-download them if need be. I don't have a heatsink, and mine has been fine for about the year I owned it. I play everyday for most part. I understand I'm one person, and many other things can happen but this was my experience.
SLC is single layer cell. T is triple. Q is quad. M is multiple but it's often used to refer to two layers.
The more layers the cheaper it is but the slower writes get and the lower the endurance.
The mp34 1tb is still available at $58 on Amazon. That is a better because it's TLC with dram. It has a much higher endurance rating and should be similar or faster than the p3. Both the p3 and p3 plus are qlc with no dram.

About Crucial - P3 Plus 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe $79.99
Why we don't buy the PNY - XLR8 CS3040 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe
The same price, but better speed (5600/43000), DRAM 1GB, 3D TLC NAND and last long TBW 1800

1TB will be $40 by end of the year. 256GB becomes obsolete.

Thanks I saw this video. This shows how to replace the storage but I'm looking to add more storage to the 1 TB it came with.

PS5 needs a Gen 4 (recommended to get one with a low profile heat sink), & work even if they don't hit the speeds Sony recommends. Many on here have gone with Sabrent for a PS5 Gen4 NVMe.

---------
Since I was already downvoted for no reason, I'll finally get this off my chest..."Will this work on a PS5?" should be banned from every NVMe thread unless PS5 is specifically in the title, which means no one should ask in the first place.

The rest of us come in looking for first hand experiences, comments on how good a deal it is, detailed specs, or links to reviews. Instead every NVMe post gets sidetracked by kids with PS5's wanting to be handfed.

Do a simple search for once in your life πŸ™„.
Not everyone knows the difference. Maybe take a second to breathe realizing that some people just play games and don't really care how the console works?

And I gave him a legit answer 6 hours ago to save others the trouble, was downvoted anyway, then you downvoted again quite literally seconds after I edited my post. So I figured if I'm going to be needlessly downvoted. Well I might as well speak my mind instead of biting my tongue as with literally every other NVMe thread.

The PS5 comment is trolling. Frustration justified. It is a decent gen 3 drive. There are better boot drives but, for games this is good If you don't have a gen 4 m.2 slot. I would go ahead and get something faster if you have a gen 4 slot. Yes SSD are price dropping. Buy if you need, not out of impulse.

they can all have DRAM (depending on the controller), but adding DRAM increases the cost, go figure. then, for the DRAM-less SSD, they have this "caching" scheme where it uses portion of the SSD as cache, and that explains why as you fill up the SSD, it gets slower (less free space for your SSD to doing caching).
Even models with dram usually use some of the flash in pSLC mode as a cache to speed things up.

This is much better.
I don't see how this deal is getting so many thumbs up when there are better options at the same or better price points.

Kudos for explaining the variation of SSDs in a nutshell for the normies πŸ˜…

These should be fine for most people trying to upgrade PCIe 3.0 computers at a decent price. I still have a Crucial P2 in one of my work laptops purchased back in 8/2020 for an upgrade -- fortunately before they switched from TLC to QLC in the P2 line!! -- and that DRAM-less drive still works fine.

Biggest thing to keep in mind is just don't fill up the drive beyond 50% capacity....and you'll get more than adequate PCEIe 3.0 speeds. But for 1TB drives at this price, plenty of people are out there that will never put anywhere near 500gb of stuff on their systems.

Not a must-buy kind of deal, as you can expect a lot of these 500gb/1TB PCIe 3.0 drives to keep inching down in price as the 4.0s become more in demand.

This week it's a Crucial deal, in a couple weeks it'll be another manufacturer slashing prices on old tech.
